Happy Thursday Hivers!
I remember how excited I was as a child whenever I heard Christmas songs playing at our neighbors’ houses. Do you know one of the things we looked forward to the most during Christmas? It was going from house to house singing Christmas carols. We even made our own musical instruments by nailing flattened metal bottle caps onto a piece of wood. We tapped them to create sounds that served as our accompaniment while singing.
Another thing I always looked forward to was the gift exchange. I was so excited to buy a gift for my manita or manito, and I was just as excited to open the gift I would receive. Another thing that made Christmas special was our barangay Christmas League, which was full of fun and exciting activities.
And of course, when Christmas Day finally arrived, there would be delicious food and desserts prepared on the table for everyone to enjoy. All these things filled my heart with so much happiness during the Christmas season.
But is it really true, as some people say, that Christmas is only for children?
For me, Christmas is for everyone. However, the level of happiness we feel may differ as we grow older.
When we are children, everything about Christmas feels new and exciting. We look forward to going from house to house singing Christmas carols, watching the activities organized in our community, exchanging gifts, and enjoying all the fun that comes with the season. Since we are still young, we naturally feel so much excitement. But as we grow older, our feelings and priorities change. The things that once brought us so much happiness may no longer give us the same level of excitement because we have become used to them.
For me, the way I enjoy Christmas has changed over the years. When I was a child, I focused mainly on my own happiness. I had no responsibilities at home, so I could simply enjoy the season without worrying about anything else. Now that I am older, I find happiness in different things. Looking at Christmas decorations, especially cute ones, can still make me smile. Listening to Christmas songs lifts my spirits, and organizing Christmas parties gives me something to look forward to.
As adults, we have more responsibilities and things to think about. We can no longer focus on Christmas alone because there are other matters that need our attention. Unlike children, who can spend most of their time enjoying the season, we have other priorities that sometimes keep us busy.
However, I believe that even as we grow older, we can still find happiness in the little things that remind us of Christmas. A cute Christmas decoration, a familiar Christmas song, or a simple celebration can still bring a smile to our faces. Perhaps the happiness we feel is no longer the same as when we were children, but that does not mean we have stopped enjoying Christmas. We simply learn to appreciate it in different ways as we grow older.
After all, among all the holidays we celebrate throughout the year, Christmas is still the one that brings the biggest smiles to our faces. Whether we are children or adults, there is something about this season that makes us feel happy. Maybe it is the decorations, the music, the food, the gatherings, or the opportunity to spend time with the people we love. Whatever it is, Christmas continues to hold a special place in our hearts.
So, is Christmas only for children? Definitely not. Christmas is for everyone. We may experience it differently as we grow older, but the joy of Christmas is something we can continue to enjoy at every stage of our lives.
