Hello, my dear and cherished Hive family. It’s a pleasure to pop in here to say hello and tell you about my day, especially as my mother-in-law and I held a rather different garage sale. We usually go out on Fridays and Saturdays to sell our goods on the ground floor of my block of flats, in an open-air space. However, on this occasion, as it was a bit rainy, we set up our stall in the entrance hall of my mother-in-law’s house. That way, it would be easier for us to pack everything away if the rain got heavier.
Hola querida y apreciada familia de Hive. Es un placer pasar por acá a saludarlos y contarles de mi día, especialmente porque mi suegra y yo tuvimos una venta de garaje diferente. Normalmente salimos los viernes y los sábados a vender nuestros productos en los bajos de mi edificio, en un terreno al aire libre. Sin embargo, en esta ocasión como el día estaba algo lluvioso, montamos nuestra tienda en el portal de la casa de mi suegra. Porque de esa forma nos sería más fácil recogerlo todo en caso de que arreciara la lluvia.
This method of holding our sale in the entrance hall is, on the one hand, more convenient when it comes to bringing out and displaying the goods, as we don’t have to set up the ground floor of my block with clotheslines, nor do we have to cross the road with all our things. On the other hand, it’s a bit tricky because the sun gets quite strong from time to time, and that affects the clothes and items we’ve put out, as they can fade from being exposed to so much sun. For that reason, whenever the sun was shining directly on a piece of clothing or an item, we’d quickly move it out of the way.
Esta modalidad, de hacer nuestra venta en el portal, por un lado es más cómodo a la hora de sacar y exponer los productos, porque no hay que habilitar los bajos de mi edificio con las tendederos, ni hay que cruzar la calle con todas las cosas. Por otro lado es algo complejo porque el sol se hace fuerte de vez en cuando y eso afecta las ropas y artículos que tendemos, ya que se nos pueden desteñir de coger tanto sol. Por tal motivo, cuando el sol le daba directamente a alguna pieza de ropa o artículo, rápidamente lo movíamos de lugar.
Another thing that affected us was the wind; as the ground in the front garden is rather uneven, the wooden unit we’d put there to hang some items kept falling over whenever the wind blew strongly.
Algo que también nos afectó fue el viento, como el terreno del jardín delantero es algo irregular, el mueble de madera que habíamos puesto para colgar algunos artículos se caía constantemente cuando soplaba fuerte el viento.
It was very positive that, even though we changed location, we remained visible to the community and potential customers. Even people travelling by public transport would stop to come and look at our products.

We need to think ahead and create better conditions at my mother-in-law’s entrance so that we can sell our goods there permanently. That will be a great blessing because it is much more convenient for us.

My mother-in-law’s mum was with us as well; she enjoys doing this as it keeps her occupied. She is 94 years old – a wealth of accumulated youth. At midday we packed everything away, and it was much easier to put it away than when we sell out front. We managed to pack everything away just in time, because it started to rain very heavily, albeit only briefly.
La mamá de mi suegra nos estuvo acompañando también, a ella le gusta hacerlo porque así se entretiene, ella tiene 94 años, una gran suma de juventud acumulada. Al medio día recogimos todo y nos fue mucho más fácil guardarlo que cuando vendemos al frente. Logramos recoger todo justo a tiempo, porque comenzó a llover muy fuerte, aunque por breve tiempo.
As soon as the rain stopped, my mother-in-law and I went out to buy ingredients for the next day’s meal, using the money we’d earned that day – thank God there was quite a bit. Whilst we were walking, my mother-in-law showed me the various places where they sell food and other places of interest, as I’m still getting used to living in the new neighbourhood and don’t know many of the nearby shops.
En cuanto escampó mi suegra y yo salimos a comprar productos para la comida del día siguiente, con el dinero que ganamos en el día, gracias a Dios fue bastante. Mientras caminábamos, mi suegra me enseña a los distintos lugares donde venden comida y otros sitios de interés, porque aún me estoy adaptando a vivir en el nuevo vecindario y no conozco varios locales cercanos.
As we walked, we realised that the sun had already risen in all its splendour; we visited a new shop selling hairdressing products, and reflected on the importance of the shop’s atmosphere and its condition—whether it is attractive, clean or air-conditioned—as these factors alone can add value to the products on offer. It’s good to visit other businesses to learn all these things. At the end of the day, we felt happy because it had been a productive day. I hope you enjoyed the post. Until next time.
Mientras caminábamos nos dimos cuenta que ya había salido el sol con todo su esplendor, visitamos una tienda nueva de productos de peluquería, y reflexionábamos sobre la importancia de la presencia del lugar y de las condiciones del mismo, si está bonito, limpio o climatizado, solamente eso puede agregar valor a los productos que ofertan.
