Another one of the key and most beautiful days of my vacation this year was the day we visited the Argentine side of Iguazú Falls. This was the highlight of the trip, the day that made all the kilometers we had traveled to get there completely worth it. I was excited to finally get there and for my dad to see the entire park with its huge waterfalls, which we had already caught a glimpse of during the previous days. Once again, nature gave us a beautifully sunny and hot day to enjoy this natural wonder at its very best 😃.
On the day we visited the Argentine side of Iguazú Falls, we had to get up very early. Since we were staying in Foz do Iguaçu, on the Brazilian side, getting to the park on the other side would take us more than an hour and a half by public transportation. To reach the waterfalls on the other side, we had to take a bus from Foz to the Puerto Iguazú bus terminal, and from there, another bus to the waterfalls park. Unfortunately, there isn’t a direct service that covers the entire journey, but the buses running these routes are quite frequent, so you can get there relatively quickly.
Since we are residents of this park’s country, admission only cost us around $10, unlike the Brazilian-side park, where we paid more than twice that. In terms of size, the park on the Argentine side is much larger, and you need the entire day to explore it. There are three main trails where you can see the waterfalls from above, from below, and then a trail that takes you right into the river and leads to the incredible Devil’s Throat. For our visit, we arrived at 9 AM and stayed there until the park closed at almost 6 PM (and if it had been up to me, I would have stayed even longer because the whole place is beautiful).
The great thing about having such a beautifully sunny day was that the waterfalls looked white and foamy, and there were rainbows everywhere. We also saw several coatis, butterflies, and even monkeys. In the previous days, during our visit to the Brazilian side of the park, we had seen the waterfalls from the front, but this time, we were walking right above them. The Argentine side of the park consists of kilometers of metal walkways over the water, allowing you to get quite close to each individual waterfall.
During our visit, we decided to do the Upper Circuit first, followed by the Lower Circuit, and finally, visit Devil’s Throat. To reach this viewpoint, you have to take a small train ride for about 15 minutes and then walk along a 1-kilometer walkway over the Iguazú River. If you look closely at the map, you are literally walking over the water almost all the way to the edge of the waterfalls—it’s incredible. Without a doubt, saving this part for last is the perfect finishing touch to this amazing visit, and to the entire trip as well. This is the area where the Iguazú River falls in a “U” shape, creating a majestic drop of millions of liters of water per second. Seeing this waterfall is hypnotic and makes you feel insignificant in the face of how beautiful nature can be. Also, being so close to the water means you’re always getting a little splashed, which makes it a great place to cool off after a scorching day. Even though this was the third time I had seen Devil’s Throat, I was just as amazed as I was the first time.
Visiting Iguazú Falls with my dad was a great travel idea, and everything turned out even better than we expected. My dad thanked me for taking him there so he could see with his own eyes just how beautiful this corner of the map between Argentina and Brazil really is. Now I can say that together we have traveled to beaches and mountains, and that we have also seen snow, the sea, rivers, and waterfalls. On my list of places I want him to see, northern Argentina is still missing, with its orange hues and arid mountains, but for now, we’re enjoying the sunny and humid days at the always wonderful Iguazú Falls ❤️.
