Brazil - Visit to the Chen Tien Buddhist Temple in the city of Foz do Iguaçu: the perfect plan before the storm. 😃❤️

After visiting Iguazú Falls from both sides, you could say that we had already done what we had “come here to do.” When you travel through this part of the map, there’s no doubt that the huge waterfalls are what get all the attention. But even after visiting the Falls’ parks three times, my dad and I still had some time left to keep exploring before heading home. It was our last full day of vacation, and we wanted to make the most of it without having to move around too much. While browsing the map of Foz, we found the perfect place to go and explore 😃.

The city of Foz do Iguaçu is small, but you can still find a few tourist attractions to visit beyond the Falls. One of them is this curious Buddhist temple called Chen Tien, less than 15 minutes by car from the city center. We had read that we could get there by public transportation, but having Uber available made it easier for us to get there without getting lost. Even though it was Sunday, the temple was open, and admission was free.

Of course, there were a few rules to follow when entering, such as wearing appropriate clothing, keeping quiet, and respecting some areas reserved exclusively for prayer. There weren’t many visitors at the time of our visit, as the sky and the forecast were threatening a heavy storm. Still, my dad and I decided to go, and we would explore the temple until the rain told us it was time to stop (which, luckily, was more than an hour after we had finished exploring the temple). It was a peaceful way to spend our last day of vacation.

This temple was actually a large green park with gray, golden, and colorful sculptures scattered throughout the grounds. According to what I found online, the temple was built in 1996 and is home to more than 120 sculptures representing different incarnations of Buddha. All the sculptures were beautiful, and there was an incredible sense of peace throughout the entire park. My dad and I love taking photos, so we took tons of them during our visit. I think we have more pictures of ourselves at this place than we do at the actual waterfalls.

Just as the forecast had predicted, the rain arrived soon after, but luckily, it only lasted for a few intense minutes. The climate in this part of the map is tropical and humid, so humidity was a constant throughout our trip, but this was the only day when we had any rain. We took advantage of the mandatory break to explore the inside of the main temple, where there were dozens of Buddha statues in different poses. Since this was the place for prayer, taking photos wasn’t allowed, so the memories stayed only in our minds.

Visiting this park was the perfect way to end our vacation, as it allowed us to have a peaceful day walking around without worrying too much about the clock. I loved spending the entire week of my first vacation as an employee exploring the area around the Falls at a relaxed pace. I also really enjoyed discovering Foz do Iguaçu, as it was my first time staying on the Brazilian side. This trip was full of so many great moments, and I was happy to keep collecting memories with my dad 😃.

Hola, querida amiga @lauramica. Buenas tardes.

Hello, dear friend @lauramica. Good afternoon.

This place took me by surprise; I had no idea there was a Buddhist temple in that city.

It’s great that the Uber service works so well there, too; it is much more comfortable and convenient than taking public transport.

It’s good that the weather and the rain allowed you to visit this striking place—and to discover yet another spot in this charming city.

Thank you so much, dear friend, for sharing this experience.

    Have a beautiful afternoon.

Hugs to all your loved ones.
