One good habit I am currently trying to build is learning how to control my anger. This is something I have been thinking about for a while because I have realized that getting angry is easy, but controlling how I react when I am angry is not always easy.
I don't think anger is necessarily a bad thing, we all get angry sometimes. There are situations where people say things that hurt us, disappoint us, or simply do things we don't agree with. The problem is what we do when that anger takes over. Sometimes, when I am angry, I may want to respond immediately without really thinking about what I am saying. Later, I might realize that I could have handled the situation in a better way.
That is why I am trying to build the habit of pausing before I react.
It sounds like a very small thing, but I think it can make a big difference. When I notice that I am getting angry, I want to take a few deep breaths and give myself some time before responding. Sometimes I may need to walk away from the situation for a few minutes. I have realized that I don't always have to respond immediately. Giving myself time to calm down can help me think more clearly.
One small change I can start making today is simply asking myself, “Do I really need to react to this?” Sometimes I get angry over things that may not even matter after a few hours or days. I am trying to remind myself that not every situation deserves an angry response.
I also want to learn from the moments when I don't handle my anger well. Instead of pretending that nothing happened, I can think about what triggered me and what I could have done differently. I don't expect myself to change overnight. Building a habit takes time, and I know there will probably be days when I still lose my temper.
For me, the goal is not to become someone who never gets angry. I think that would be unrealistic. My goal is to become someone who knows how to deal with anger without allowing it to control my actions or hurt the people around me.
I believe this small change can improve my life in the long run. Being able to stay calm can help me communicate better, avoid unnecessary arguments, and have better relationships with people. It can also give me more peace of mind because I won't always be reacting based on how I feel at that exact moment.
I am learning that good habits don't always have to be big changes. Sometimes, something as simple as taking a breath, staying quiet for a moment, and thinking before speaking can make a real difference.
That is the habit I am working on right now. I may not get it right every time, but I believe that if I keep practising, I will gradually become better at managing my anger.
Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
