Kindness Beyond the Camera

Image source: Meta AISome of the beautiful ways we can show love and care towards others is to help others. But, what if the person is helping me not because they care for me but because they want social media attention and fame? Would I still receive their help?

To be honest, yes, even if I was in a pinch. If I needed food for my family, money for medication, or support in a critical situation, I would still be thankful for that assistance. When times get hard, we can't always have the luxury of being concerned about people's motives because what really matters is that you get through that time.

But asking for help doesn't negate the author's motivations. I think every act of true charity should come from a true heart. To serve someone should be in no way a chance to gain fame or to be praised. It should solely be an opportunity to ease another's load.

So you see a person making a video of him/herself giving money to a poor family. The video goes viral, and many people say what a noble deed he/she has done. It is great that the poor family has received something but they might be ashamed because they are now in the limelight. For me, this should never be at the expense of human dignity.

From a Christian point of view, I know that God sees the state of our hearts, not just our deeds. Others may praise us for things we do but ultimately the real concern is: are we loving and compassionate? We don't always need an audience to affirm that we're truly caring.

However, I still wouldn't instantly turn down someone's offer to help just because they're seeking attention. Maybe they're int ited to encourage more kindness from others and that might end up doing some good. If they're decent to the individuals involved then I suppose there isn't any harm.

Eventually, I would gratefully accept the assistance, but I would take from it the fact that kindness isn't always in what we do. It's also about our actions towards those who are hurt.

My aspiration is to be a person who is able to help others unconditionally. The best form of charity, for me, is to help a person restore their hope without making them feel humiliated for being in need of help.

Exactly... Their motive for attention can always be a 2-way thing especially for these foundations but individually chasing attention with the kindness you're showing me doesn't mean I won't get the help from you as long as I'm in need of the help and can't get it myself
