Are We Doomed or Are We Just Playing a Survival Game While the Elites Watch?

Whenever we watch a dystopian movie where the rich, the elites, and powerful joyfully watching the poor people fight for survival, we think about how horrifying that would be. In those movies, people compete for food, money, shelter and even climbing the ladder while the elites watch from a safe distance, betting and treating the whole thing as entertainment. Perhaps, we even think, well thankfully, it's just a movie.

Looking at how things playout these days, I dare say. WE LIVE IN A WORLD LIKE THAT.

What gets increasingly dystopian is that people all over the world are being told to prepare emergency kit and survival worth for 3 days. For most people, this is just probably disaster preparedness and for the government sending that warning, there has to be something in it. Like the Red Cross in the UK said that the advice is because it reflects the reality that disruptions to everyday services can happen for many reasons. Severe weather, flooding, power cuts or other issues affecting transport and communications can make daily life more difficult for several days. Being prepared can help households cope more confidently when these situations occur. In the past, they do not normally do this unless there is something that prompt them to create a prevention. Many of here perhaps are more aware than others but for majority of the people, this isn't something that is common to them.

That message certainly does not account those who live below the poverty level. It just goes to show that if you are poor, you'll less likely to survive whatever hits your country, whether it's nuclear war, disaster or simply power cut. But there's a hope And as an avid apocalyptic movie enjoyer and game player, my takeaway is why stock up when you can loot? I know I am joking but learning from Covid, being prepared is one of the key to survival.

Here's what I notice though. Those things are roll out to the news and obviously serves as certain warning or just a diversion. When you get off the news, the government is still cooking up project here and there. While they are not oblivious towards instability everything is just business as usual. They know what to do and gets the A1 information than the rest of the people because what gets to the people is the filtered information.

In Indonesian case for instance, we no longer divided by classes anymore. We are now given by number, 1 to 10. This is based on recent data that are collected by government to rank families by their relative economic welfare so they can decide who should receive social assistance.

The rank is based not only on salary alone but also housing conditions, assets, employment, education, access to water, electricity, health and other characteristics. You can earn $200 but is ranked 7 because you have no dependent and live on a nicer house that was given by your family. Hence, you no longer able to receive any assistance from the government. You're neither rich nor poor. You can earn $6000/month but ranked 3 because you rent the place, live in a shack and your income does not reflect your actual lived experience. So, you are eligible to receive government assistance.

That alone is already dystopian because that system is being used to asses many government aid programs. Think of it this way that system alone can be used to determine what opportunities you have to survive. Recently, the social welfare ministry said that it will asses the national health insurance using this system.

In the past, it was purely based on classes and your ability to pay. You choose 1,2,3 with 1 being most expensive. If you can only afford $2.5/month per person, then that's what you choose, the 3rd class. But now, that system is going to be replaced through these ranking. If they retain the class system, then that's still good because it only affects how much the govt is contributing in the "actual" payment of the insurance. But if they start proposing flat tariff based on the ranking system, that's utterly dystopian.

The more I look at the news, the more it angers me. We're now asked to prepare for disasters by ourselves while the government is doing fuck-all. Might as well just raw-dog the situation, hope for the best. Because why live among people with these psychopathic traits? It doesn't mean they're cruel but to the people who actually enjoy making everyone else's lives miserable, can't just they go play their little survival games with each other?

Wouldn't it be fun that these sociopaths and psychopaths have their own little game and ranking. I am sure there's like some millions of them worldwide, enough to create one nation only under one system. I am sure they'll enjoy it.

What youve posted is relatable to almost every other country in the world. I think the biggest problem with these emergency preparedness messages is that they assume everyone has the same capacity to prepare. Telling someone who is barely able to afford today's meal to stock up for three days is almost ironic.

    About lost it, too funny.

Yeah, it is getting crazy and I do think governments are getting a little edgy because they know people are onto them and their puppet masters.

the situation is getting similar in every country. That why the most of the country is burning these days, paris / india and others. btw i too realized the gap is widening in the society. the rich are getting more richer while the middle class and poor remain stagnant.

There’s one thing you said that really caught my attention, and that’s the question of whether it’s actually a warning or a distraction. I’ve been researching topics like this for many years, and much of what appears in the news is a distraction, it isn’t real, but it’s necessary to keep people occupied, for example by putting together a survival kit whilst things are happening that we never find out about.

Fiction films are often not just fiction; they leave us with messages about things that are happening but which we ignore. A blackout could indeed happen, but perhaps governments are involved for various reasons. It’s a fascinating topic you’ve raised, and one that offers plenty to discuss. A big hug!🤗
