Some of the best dishes I had in Tasikmalaya, West-Java, Indonesia

My job recently isn't that different from what I've been doing the past couple of years. There's always finding hidden gem of food involved in my visit. This culinary delights can also be the highlight of my visit. Unlike the past where I paid everything by myself, this new job actually paid all of it for me except I never really have the time to actually write about them and some of my culinary experience becomes just another story that only I and some other people experience.

In Tasikmalaya, the cuisine is similar to Bandung. So, typically the food has extra savory and spiciness to it. There is a famous Satay called Sate Maranggi which apparently has a taste like cured savory sweet meat. It has interesting flavor profile as typically satay only has sweetness but never savory taste to it. So, if you like something unique, this Sate Maranggi is for you.
Around Tasikmalaya, Sambel Bakar ( the dishes above) is also pretty popular in the area, I ordered sambal squid which tasted pretty spicy but has enough heat for me. For someone who's used to East-Javanese spiciness, it was something that reminds me of home.
As for the pricing around Tasikmalaya, it costs from 1.5 to 3$ which is quite reasonable with today's prices. In our current economy, eating out isn't really an option but in this line of work, sometimes I have to eat with clients and it's all budgeted for.
I have quite different taste compared to my other teammates. So, it's why I typically have the best recommendations and something delicious for them 😄 cause I like to check google rating and menu first before buying. I don't trust instagram influencers but I like having my own adventure and finding hidden places or gems where locals like to go. Some food influencers are paid for their views and they only recommend places that are highly overrated as opposed to the places I am visiting.
Even when it comes to food, I have to learn different generations like different things. So, I am adjusting to it. Anyway, here are the two places I visited and would highly recommend.
You can check out these two places here :
📍 Rumah Makan Manggung Rasa Jl. Raya No.280, Manggungsari, Kec. Rajapolah, Kabupaten Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat 46155, Indonesia
📍 Sambal Bakar Garut 2 Cintaraja Jl. Raya Singaparna No.284, Cikunir, Kec. Singaparna, Kabupaten Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat 46417
