Since ancient times, women have been pulling the strings of the world without men even realizing it. That’s why they say that behind every great man there’s a woman. However, that’s not really the case; it’s us women who are always leading the way. With our romanticism, teary eyes, and “it wasn’t me” looks. Of course, some more than others. What is true is that some of us are very romantic; perhaps it’s just in our nature.
This has allowed us to venture into fields where we’ve been able to express all the love, passion, and even heartbreak we carry inside. Among these fields are poetry, music, painting, and others. As for music, today I’m starting a journey from my country with Spanish-speaking singers who have reached the top of the music charts in many countries.
Venezuela has been the birthplace of great female vocalists who set the standard with major hits that propelled them onto the international stage. Even though some were not born in the country, their hearts are Venezuelan. During my youth, singers such as Kiara, Marlene, Liz, Diveana, Antonieta, María Conchita Alonso, Melissa, and Karina, among others, emerged. In the ’80s and ’90s, many songs that made them famous were all the rage.
Some of them faded into obscurity. You still hear them today, but they’ve disappeared from the entertainment scene; as we say in my country, “all talk and no action.” Others remain relevant by promoting their old songs. I’ve picked out three songs that I like and a little bonus track to share with @ablaze and #ThreeTuneTuesday.

Las mujeres, desde tiempos ancestrales, han movido los hilos del mundo sin que los hombres se percaten. Por eso dicen que detrás de un gran hombre hay una mujer. Sin embargo, esto no es así; somos las mujeres quienes siempre vamos adelante llevando la batuta. Con nuestro romanticismo, ojitos llorones y caras de “yo no fui”. Por supuesto, algunas más que otras. Lo que sí es cierto es que algunas somos muy románticas; quizás es por naturaleza.
Esto les ha permitido incursionar en espacios donde han podido plasmar todo el amor, la pasión y también el desamor que llevan dentro. Entre estas áreas encontramos la poesía, música, pintura y otras. En cuanto a la música, hoy inicio un recorrido desde mi país con cantantes de habla hispana que llegaron a ocupar los primeros lugares del top musical en muchos países. Venezuela ha sido cuna de grandes voces femeninas que marcaron la pauta con grandes éxitos que las llevaron a los escenarios internacionales. Aun cuando algunas no nacieron en el país, sus corazones son venezolanos. En mi época de juventud surgieron cantantes como Kiara, Marlene, Liz, Diveana, Antonieta, María Conchita Alonso, Melissa, Karina, entre otras. En los años 80 y 90, sonaron muchas canciones que las hicieron famosas. Algunas de ellas se esfumaron. Hoy por hoy se escuchan, pero desaparecieron de la farándula; como dicen en mi país, "puro buche y pluma". Otras se mantienen vigentes promocionando sus viejas canciones. Les escogí tres canciones que me gustan y una ñapita para compartir con @ablaze y #ThreeTuneTuesday. ¡Suénala, DJ!
Sometimes, I hear a song in the distance that brings back memories, and I can picture that person exactly as they were. This happens to me with my siblings and cousins, since I was just a child when that older group were teenagers. Each had their own distinct style, reflected in the way they dressed, the music they listened to, and their favorite movies, among other things. At home, they would take turns enjoying their favorite singers and songs.
I picture them sitting on the floor—some chatting, others reading a book, a magazine, or comic books. Years later, it was my turn—along with cousins, friends, Paraulata, and Beckyta—to enjoy the music garden and dance there. That was where I discovered the female singers who took over the music scene in the 80s and 90s. Most of them made a major impact in Venezuela and went on to achieve international fame. Today, I’m featuring María Conchita Alonso, also known as “Ámbar” during her early days in the 80s.
She was born in Cuba and arrived in the country when she was five years old. Over the course of her artistic career, she released 20 albums, two of which were under the stage name Ámbar. The selected track is “Una noche de copas”; this song was released in 1984 on the album María Conchita, produced by A&M Records.

Her husky, sensual voice made many young people of my generation fall in love with her. Some of my girlfriends would argue and get upset because their boyfriends were fans of this singer.
Karina, the girl in her high heels, took the Venezuelan stage and won the hearts of young people who still remember her today. A generation that hasn’t forgotten her and still sings her songs. Among her hits: “Sálvame,” “Viva el amor,” “Desde mi ventana,” and others.
I like all of her songs, and I chose the song “A quién” to share with @ablaze. It was released in 1985 on her album Amor a millón.

Her music is still relevant, and I still listen to it. It brings back happy memories. I'll tell you this: Karina needed those high heels because she's short.
Melissa Griffiths began her artistic career at a very young age; she is known as the queen of rock. From her repertoire, she chose the song “A punto de caramelo.” It was released in 1983 on the album No vale la pena (Heartbreaker).

A woman with a powerful voice. I think she lacked promotion, as she had everything it took to be a huge star. "A punto de caramelo" is a song with excellent lyrics. Suddenly, I was transported by my time machine back to my college days, where I met a few men with those very traits.
Diveana is a Venezuelan singer known for merengue and dance music in general. She started out with the orchestra "La Única de Maracaibo" and joined "Los Melódicos" in 1986. She launched her solo career in 1990. Her hits include "Me falta todo," "De amor y de miel," and "Tus ojos," among others. I absolutely love "Me falta todo"; here it is for you to dance to and enjoy life to the rhythm of Diveana.

A veces escucho a lo lejos una canción que me trae recuerdos y veo a esa persona tal cual. Esto me sucede con mis hermanos y primos, pues era una niña cuando la tropa mayor eran adolescentes. Cada uno con su estilo particular que reflejaban en su manera de vestir, las canciones que escuchaban, sus filmes preferidos, entre otras cosas. En casa se turnaban para disfrutar de sus cantantes y canciones preferidas.
Los evoco sentados en el piso, unos tertuliando, otros leyendo un libro, revista o historietas. Años después me tocó a mí, junto a primos, amigos, Paraulata y Beckyta, disfrutar y bailar en el jardín de música. Allí conocí a cantantes femeninas que invadieron los espacios musicales en los años 80 y 90. La mayoría se impusieron en Venezuela y alcanzaron fama internacional. Hoy les traigo a María Conchita Alonso, también conocida como “Ámbar” en sus inicios en los años 80. Nació en Cuba y llegó al país cuando tenía cinco años. Durante su trayectoria artística, lanzó 20 álbumes, de los cuales dos de ellos fueron con el seudónimo de Ámbar. Algunas amiguis discutían y se molestaban porque los novios eran fans de esta cantante.  Karina, la chica con sus zapatos de tacón alto, llegó al escenario de los venezolanos para quedarse en el corazón de unos jóvenes que hoy por hoy la recuerdan. Una generación que no la olvida y todavía canta sus canciones. Entre sus éxitos: Sálvame, viva el amor, desde mi ventana, entre otras. A mí todas sus canciones me gustan y seleccioné la canción “A quién” para compartir con @ablaze. Esta fue lanzada en el año 1985 en su álbum: “Amor a millón”. Creo que le faltó promoción, pues tenía todas las condiciones para ser una gran estrella. A punto de caramelo es una canción con una excelente letra. De repente, viajé en mi máquina del tiempo a días universitarios donde encontré algunos hombres con estas características.  Diveana es una cantante venezolana dedicada al merengue y a la música bailable en general. Inicio con la orquesta “La Única de Maracaibo” y en el año 1986 ingresa a la orquesta “Los Melódicos”. Inicia como solista en el año 1990. Entre sus éxitos destacan “Me falta todo”, “De amor y de miel”, “Tus ojos”, entre otras. A mí me fascina “Me falta todo”; se las dejo para que bailen y disfruten la vida al ritmo de Diveana. Esta canción fue lanzada en el año 1994 en el álbum: “Dame que te doy”. ¡A bailar! We only have one life, and it is up to us to decide whether we want to be happy or spend our lives complaining. I prefer to belong to the former group.
