This documentary film tells the story of a woman who married at a very young age—around the year 2000, when she was roughly sixteen—because she was pregnant. She lost that pregnancy, a loss that deeply affected her; to make matters worse, she lost two more babies during subsequent attempts. As if that weren't enough, her family constantly pestered her with intrusive questions about when they would have children. All of this took such a toll on her mental state that, when she lost her final pregnancy, she did not tell her family; instead, she kept pretending to be pregnant—especially after meeting a young woman who promised to give her the baby once it was born, as she did not want to raise the child. However, on the day of the delivery, the young woman changed her mind and decided to give the baby to the biological father; the protagonist then stole the infant, an act for which she ended up serving over thirteen years in prison after being discovered.
Se trata de una película documental que nos habla de la vida de una mujer que se casó muy jovencita por allá en el año 2000, cuando tenía más o menos 16 años ya que estaba embarazada, el caso es que ella perdió ese embarazo y la pérdida le afectó demasiado, para colmó perdió dos bebés más a lo largo de sus intentos y por si fuera poco su familia la hostigaba todo el tiempo con preguntas indiscretas acerca de cuando tendrían hijos, todo esto la trastornó hasta el punto en el que cuando perdió el último embarazo no lo notifico a los familiares, sino que siguió fingiendo estar embarazada, sobre todo luego de conocer a una joven que le aseguró que le regalaría a su bebé cuando diera a luz pues no quería criarla, sin embargo el día del parto la chica se retractó y dijo que le daría la bebé a su padre biológico, pero la protagonista de la historia se robó a la niña, así que tuvo que pagar más de trece años de cárcel cuando fue descubierta.
I like the fact that it combines two formats—narrative film and documentary—because the story feels more personal; it allows us to see what the characters are truly like and hear their perspectives on events. That abrupt shift in format enables viewers to draw their own conclusions, as it includes interviews with everyone involved—including the presiding judge—and offers a completely authentic resolution to the story.
Me gusta el hecho de que combina dos formatos, el cine y el documental, pues la historia se siente más cercana y además nos permite ver como son los personajes realmente, escuchar la versión de la historia desde sus puntos de vista, ese choque o cambio abrupto de formato hace que el espectador pueda sacar sus propias conclusiones pues hay entrevistas de todos los involucrados, incluyendo la jueza que llevó el caso, y además nos ofrecen un cierre de la historia absolutamente real.
As this is a true story, it reinforces the intended critique regarding the pressure society and family often place on individuals and couples—and especially on women—by relegating them to a single role: that of procreator. It practically imposes the idea that if you refuse to fulfill this role, or cannot do so for biological or other reasons, you are a failure in life. Naturally, this can cause emotional imbalance; of course, not everyone is the same—there are strong women who simply walk away from difficult people or put rude individuals in their place. However, not all women possess that kind of mettle; some may develop genuine trauma that drives them to commit rash or irrational acts, much like the protagonist of this story.
Al ser una historia de la vida real se confirma la critica que se pretende exponer, la manera en que muchas veces la sociedad y la familia presiona a las personas, a las parejas y en especial a las muejres, relegándolas a un solo rol, el de procreadoras, practicamente imponiendo la idea de que si te niegas a ejecutar ese rol o no puedes por razones biológicas o lo que sea, entonces estás fracansando en la vida, esto obviamente puede crear un desequilibrio en las personas, obviamente no todos somos iguales, hay mujeres fuertes que simplemente se alejan de las personas conflictivas o ponen en su lugar a cualquier desubidado, sin embargo no todas las mujeres tienen ese temple, hay quienes pueden llegar a desarrollar verdaderos traumas que los lleven a cometer locuras, como la protagonista de esta historia.
One thing I appreciated is that, despite the criticism, the film does not attempt to justify or romanticize Alejandra’s actions—which is why it tells the story from the perspectives of the actual individuals involved. Instead, it seeks to explore the human psyche and how people react under pressure. It also exposes the system and the institutional failures that allowed the situation to spiral out of control, while simultaneously critiquing the sensationalism that surrounded the events at the time—with families suffering while the media chased views and ratings.
Algo que me gustó es que a pesar de la crítica la película no pretende justificar o romantizar las acciones de Alejandra (por eso el documental cuenta la historia desde el punto de vista de cada uno de los personajes reales) sino que lo que busca es explorar la psique humana y sus reacciones cuando está sometida a presión, además de que expone al sistema y sus fallas como las fallas institucionales que permitieron que esta situación escalara hasta perder el control, y desde luego también busca criticar todo el morbo mediático que se creó en su momento a raíz de la situación, familias sufriendo mientras los medios solo buscaban vistas o raiting.
