The story begins when the owner of an old dog named Sultan decides to kill him, as the dog is no longer useful—having lost his teeth and posing no threat. Realizing his fate was sealed, the dog decided to play one last card; he went into the forest to ask his old friend, the wolf, for help. The wolf proposed a cunning scheme: he would pretend to snatch the owner's child, while the dog would pretend to rescue the boy and bring him back. The plan succeeded brilliantly; impressed by this display of "heroism," the owner not only spared the dog's life but also gave him one of his own pillows and asked his wife to cook a special meal for him. Some time later, the wolf asked the dog to pretend not to notice when he stole one of the master's sheep, but the dog refused, citing his loyalty to his master. Angered, the wolf threatened to settle the score and challenged the dog to a confrontation in the forest. The wolf enlisted the help of his friend the wild boar, while the dog could only turn to the household's lame cat. However, on the day of the encounter, the boar and the wolf misjudged the situation; believing the dog was brandishing a sword and that the cat was far more dangerous than it actually was, they fled in terror.
Todo inicia cuando el dueño de un perro viejo llamado Sultan decide matarlo porque el perro ya no le da ningún beneficio, ya no tiene dientes y no representa ninguna amenaza, el perro al ver que su suerte ya estaba echada quiso jugarse una última carta, así que se fue al bosque a hablar con su viejo amigo el lobo para que lo ayudara, ante la situación el lobo propone un astuto ardid, el lobo fingiría robar al niño del dueño de la casa, mientras el perro fingía rescatarlo para llevarlo de vuelta. Finalmente el ardid resultó favorablemente pues ante aquella muestra de "heroismo" el dueño del perro no solo le perdonó la vida, sino que le dio una de sus propias almohadas y le pidió a su esposa que cocinara algo especial para el perro. Tiempo después el lobo le pidió al perro que fingiera no verlo cuando él se robara una oveja del amo, pero el perro se negó alegando que su fidelidad hacia el amo se lo impedía, así que el lobo lo amenazó con cobrarse la afrenta, y lo citó en elbosque para que resolvieran el asunto. De esta manera el lobo buscó a su amigo el jabalí para que lo ayudara, mientras que el perro solo pudo recurrir al gato cojo de la casa, sin embargo el día del encuentro el jabalí y el lobo confunderon las cosas, creyeron que el perro blandía una espada y que el gato era más amenazante de lo que realmente era, asíq ue salieron huyendo despavoridos.
One of the main lessons this story aims to teach us is that, regardless of your weaknesses or limitations, you can always triumph in any situation through cunning—turning the tables in an instant. Yet, loyalty is also at stake here; the master was not loyal to the dog that had served him for so many years, for as soon as he saw the animal's frailty, he did not hesitate to get rid of him. Nevertheless, the dog demonstrated true fidelity by refusing to help the wolf who wanted to steal a sheep. This troubles me, however, because we must not forget that the wolf had helped him during his most vulnerable moment; it was the wolf who devised the scheme that allowed the dog to keep his job (albeit through deception).
Una de las principales cosas que pretende enseñarnos este cuento es que no importan tus debilidades o limitaciones, siempre puedes salir airoso de cualquier situación mediante la astucia, en un tris puedes revertir cualquier situación, sin embargo aquí también está en juego la lealtad, el amo no fue leal con el perro que le sirvió por tantos años, pues en cuanto vio su fragilidad no dudó en deshacerse de él, sin embargo el perro le mostró verdadera fidelidad al negarse a ayudar al lobo que quería robarse una oveja, no obstante esto me causa malestar porque no debemos olvidar que el lobo lo ayudó en su momento m´s vulnerable, fue quién diseñó el ardid y lo por ende el perro conservó su puesto (bajo engaños)
So, the story presents two crucial elements: gratitude and cunning. However, the gratitude appears to be conditional—the dog remains loyal to the master as long as he keeps him alive, the master remains loyal to the dog as long as he proves useful, and the wolf helps the dog in the hope of receiving help in return. It is a complex matter, but in my opinion, regardless of whether the wolf helped the dog hoping for future benefit, the dog should not have ignored him when he was in need; after all, he owed his survival to the wolf's intervention.
Así que el cuento plantea estos dos elementos importantísimos: gratitud y astucia, pero la gratitud parece estar condicionada (el perro le es fiel al amo siempre y cuando lo conserve con vida, el amo le es fiel al perro siempre y cuando este muestre ser útil, el lobo ayuda al perro con la esperanza de ser ayudado después) es algo muy complejo pero opino que independientemente de si el lobo ayudó al perro con la esperanza de que más tarde le sirviera, el perro no debió ignorarlo cuando lo necesitaba, porque después de todo si él conservaba la vida fue gracias a la intervención del lobo.
