To be honest with you all, this is something I've felt quite a few times. I won't want to generalize it though, but then, when you see your friends, peers, and people around you doing well for themselves, buying stuff, traveling abroad, owning things, landing good jobs, and all of those great things you can't but help it at times. And that is why I say it is something I have felt. And that pressure can be very real and weighty; this kind of pressure most times is even self-inflicted, not as if anyone directly puts it on you, but you just feel pressured to look more successful than you actually are.
I remember sometime ago, I had to get something along with me because I was going to meet with some old friends of mine. I don't want to appear off or out of their league, so I felt pressured to. Well, that went, and that was just it, but then who am I deceiving, who am I confusing? Later I began to adjust; there's a huge difference between looking successful and being successful. Because along the line, even those who are supposed to help you rise up would think you're already doing well for yourself, not knowing you're not.
So for me, I would rather build a life that will really make me successful later. Looking successful as nothing to offer, it would only make those who can help you see you as someone who's made already and doing very well. So, I would rather build something slowly and quietly. I can't afford to spend my time trying to convince people that I have arrived when I'm nowhere yet.
So, that's it for me. Building a life that would speak for itself and not the type where I would be the one trying to announce myself, explain myself, and show things off.
