The movie Double World is a Chinese movie that takes us into an ancient world filled with different kingdoms and the constant fight for power. It revolves around a young man called Dong Yilong, whom people see as a bastard but who in the real sense was of royal blood, which was unknown to him too, and also a man named Chu Hun, who had long-term hatred and revenge planning as well, and then a lady called Jinggang; the three of them later had to come together and work together when the various eight clans in the kingdom were called upon to send in their strongest and best fighters. The competition was supposed to be an honorable one that would at the end of the day produce a marshal, but then there's more to it.
Don't Yilong and Chu Hun happens to be from the same clan, both of them together with a warrior volunteered to represent their clan, and they were allowed to, on their way to the actual place, the Capital where the competition is to happen they faced different things on the way, and that was how one of the, the warrior who happened to be the third died, so they kept on going and it was on their way that they got to meet with the lady Jinggang, after a little bit of back and forth they agreed to include her in their team since they won't be allowed to participate if they're not up to three in a team.
The competition isn't such a good one, they had to fight their way through various deadly traps, monsters, rival warriors and all, and what started as a competition became an even more deeper stuffs that reveals things they didn't expect or see coming. That was how Dong Yilong got to know who he actually is; Chu Hun as well got to see the betrayal working next to the king and made sure to get him down, while Jinggang, at the end of the day, lost her life... That pained me.
Double World is an interesting movie. And I love the character Dong Yilong the most; I love him for his heart, a very nice, caring, and humane guy. He's the type who would help anything and anyone. I actually do not like how he's always trying to save people, animals, and all even when they're in danger too; he's just always helping, even helping rival warriors, but that's just him, a young man with a good heart.
I also admire greatly the friendship that the three of them shared. Not only that, but I mean, Dong Yilong, Chu Hun, and Jinggang had different personalities but still became a team working together to achieve their goals. Very skilled and amazing set of people. I was glad they were later able to save the king and take away the betrayal standing next to the him who was actually working for the enemies.
An action-filled movie, I must say; it's just that I actually do not like how filled up the movie was. There are just too many characters doing different things all at once, and if you're not being careful and following very well, you might not understand or be surprised when you see someone doing something; you just start wondering where they came from again.
Another thing that feels odd to me is that, why would they say they're preparing for a war, ask all good fighters in each clan, three each to show up, and then have them all fight with each other only to take just one winner out of them, several others lost their lives while some returned to their clan, even though they returned to fight the betrayal, but then why that competition, why all of that, why allow skilled soldiers die if you're actually preparing for a war, or is it just to cause rift between the clans or so that when the plan of the betrayal next to the king come to pass there won't be people or enough skilled people to fight....
Not as if it were a bad movie, though, not at all. I love it so much, especially the action scenes; they fought, displayed their skills in martial arts, fought monsters, and navigated through deadly traps. Overall, it is a great movie and is definitely worth your time.
