[Movie] Movie Review: Ms. Kanyin.

Ms. Kanyin, I would say it's a very intriguing and interesting movie, even though towards the end it had some bit of an issue with it. But then, let's dive in. "Ms. Kanyin" is a movie shot in a school setting, meaning it has students, teachers, and some other staff in it.

Now there's Amara, one of Ms. Kanyin's students who happens to be very brilliant but is having issues with a subject (French); she was told she could only get admission to that school of her choice if only she could do better in it, as it would be very good. Along the line, they decided to take a dangerous shortcut. The forthcoming exams question paper was handed to her principal, then her principal handed it over to Ms. Kanyin. Ms. Kanyin, in turn, went ahead to hide it in a very secure place.

Amara got to know about it, and she planned together with her friends to go steal it, just so they would be able to prepare ahead. But then again, she needed the help of the principal's daughter; of course she told her about it, and she, in turn, refused to be a part of it, but after some pressures... She gave in, and they all planned the best way to do that.

Their school is a boarding school; the principal and some of the teachers stay on campus in their own apartment, so it was a bit easy to do. Also, the principal's daughter is close to Ms. Kanyin; that was why they needed her so she could be able to sneak in, get some details beforehand, and know about her movement. All of this they did and achieved until the day to carry out the operation came.

But what they do not realize is that what they're about to venture into would lead into something else, something beyond their control. Something unexpected. Well, they went in that night as Ms. Kanyin had gone out together with one of the teachers who happens to be her lover. They searched but couldn't find the exam questions. Not long after, Ms. Kanyin returned as they couldn't go out again because the vehicle developed some fault. Long story short, she noticed something was off. Amara was still inside then, and she made sure to get her hands on the script before finding her way out.

Now, the principal's daughter has a dog which Amara takes about, she took the dog with her that night and handed it over to one of the guys who didn't really like Ms Kanyin, Ms Kanyin in her part as always feared that dog. So, as Ms. Kanyin returned and noticed something was off, the guys ran away and left the dog at the scene; the dog went for Ms. Kanyin, and they both ran into the bush.

This movie is one I enjoy so much, especially because it consists of a lot of things, from school drama to academic pressure to desperation and some bit of horror and the likes. When I wanted to watch this movie, I had very high hopes, and I was expecting some form of drama as they made it about the different stories we often hear about boarding schools. You know all these kinds of creepy stories.

Also, I love how the movie gave some bit of old-school stuff, and the settings, costumes, environment, and all were great. I would like to add that Temi Otedola was the one who acted as Amara, and believe me, she did excellently well. The principal's daughter, too, was great, and Ms. Kanyin, as well, gave her best.

I just didn't like how the horror part of the movie took time to come about and didn't even last for so long. And even though it later came, it felt so simple, not that big of a drama except that it appeared, killed, and disappeared again. The horrible and fearsome creature was actually Ms. Kanyin; she died, and because of the area she died in and her blood touched a mysterious tree, something happened and everything took another turn, which began to lead to the deaths of students.

I like the scene where one of the students was killed in the restroom by Ms. Kanyin, though. Yeah, I like that. But then, all other scenes of her showing up to kill again look somehow odd to me. Also, I feel the storyline isn't that deep. Instead of going all the way to do all those things they did at the beginning, they should have cut it short and made it more about Ms. Kanyin, the school, and that mysterious tree. The movie didn't explore and explain it enough... At least to me.

Overall, it is a good movie. They gave in their best.
