My best money-saving habit is la very simple one, yeah. Even though it may not be as simple as it sounds, it is still what I always try and do my best to follow. And that is saving before beginning to spend. Anytime a certain amount of money enters my account, I don't see it as one that I'm obliged to spend it all on. So, I take out of it, save it somewhere I know I won't touch it or won't have that much of an access to it and then spend the ones remaining.
And as little as it may seem, that habit has helped me and is also helping till now. And in as much as I agree that it is not that easy to save, considering what you earn and the responsibilities already waiting and hanging around your neck. I've made saving a part of those responsibilities too. One that I must find a way to sort out immediately when money comes in. So, it is not even about how much I earn; it is about how much control I have over it and if I'm ready to sort out my responsibilities since saving is also a part of it.
And about those who feel that it is until they're earning more, that is when they can save, I'm very sorry about that. They'd say, "To whom much is given, much is expected." If you cannot deal with little, my dear, there's no way you will be able to when even more comes in, because when it finally does, a lot of responsibilities will come along with it. There will always be something to buy, there will always be someone to help, and you will always have reasons to spend.
So, if I have the opportunity of advising someone about spending, saving, and being able to be in control of your money, then I will advise that you make saving a responsibility. Yeah, this is a lived experience; it is helping me as well. As you see, buying foodstuffs is a must since you know you must eat; take savings that way too and know that someday it will help you.
And before going all out to spend your money on a thing, do well to ask yourself if it is something you really need. Lastly, I would advise that you don't live your life in comparison to others. I saw a post sometime ago that says, "You may know their occupation and not their source of income." You never can tell if they're really doing the same thing you're doing, so why try to keep up with them and live their kind of lives? They may be living a fake life or be involved in other things that are giving them more money to maintain that lifestyle. Just be you and do not live above your means.
