Newbies Are Leaving Hive. Are We Giving Them A Reason to Stay?

I've not been here for long, but for the few years that I've spent here, I've seen a lot of newbies who joined hive with excitement leave after making one or two posts. You even see some going to the extent of engaging very well with you, joining different communities, and being a part of the discord groups too, but even with all of that, you just seem to suddenly disappear. You check their blog and see that they've been inactive for months. And it makes you wonder what exactly is happening.

I've been there before too, and I can very well relate. After joining hive, I made some posts back then too, and after a while I left.... It was after over a year or two that I came back. I mean, I was inactive for over a year. And one of the things that made me leave back the ln, I believe, is one of the reasons newbies don't really stay today too. And that is not seeing results.

You know, you've spent time writing, editing, and putting things together only to post them and see little or no attention, engagement, or rewards on them. You see others accumulating rewards, and you start feeling like maybe hive is just for some selected few. And anytime I could have felt that way. You've been active for weeks and posting very good content, yet no one is engaging, and when again you're not seeing any tangible rewards either, it's normal to feel somehow. And that, for me, I believe, is the number one main reason why most newbies leave. Some feel they're buying data to be here and do things on here, so it is not too much to ask that they get some rewards from what I'm doing too.

To not beat around the bush, I feel if we want newbies to stay and make them feel at home, engaging with them, upvoting their posts, making time out to explain how things work here, and helping them out by giving some corrections and the like will go a long way to make a good, huge, and tangible difference.

I also feel that communities, too, should understand newbies and not just wave them off all because they missed out on a certain rule or posted a different thing meant for a different community in their communities. They should definitely just be guided and shown the way it should be done.

Hive still has a lot to offer; I believe in the future of Hive, and I know it is a very good and bright one. And that is part of the reason why I'm still here too, not because I'm getting engagement, upvotes, and all as I would love to, but because we keep going. So, before we ask why newbies are leaving, we need to ask if we're doing enough and giving them a reason to stay.

Newbies leave Hive just because they sre not actively participating as this would surely bring down their reward system. Thanks for sharing.

It's never easy to be a newbie in anything, they are basic things you need to learn and understand so that space you are will be comfortable for you and learning it might take much time than you expected.

It takes courage, zeal and passion for a newbie to keep moving on Hive. And you really talked about one of the major reasons why some newbies exit hives, it's really painful seeing them leave. I just wish they could understand the process🥺

Till today, I never understand this hive!! Somedays it's interesting, somedays it's frustrating. Well for me, I will just continue writing for the fun, if it is for the reward eehh, I would have quited. Hive rules is another major reasons for giving up, their rules for a newbie is most times confusing.

The life of a newbie it's hard here especially because most of them expects easy and immediate rewards that's not what happened on hive, it's not easy also because they can be confused by the rules and the community it's not easy find a complete hive guidelines and maybe some getts tired if trying and exploring.

Journey as a beginner is not easy, and understanding Hive is also quite difficult for many users. I think one need a mentor to guide them. Upvotes are just a matter of time, but newbies need to be patient for it.

As a newbie, it can be so frustrating I must say.

There are some communities I can't publish because they need people with higher reputation.

And also, my content has been muted in one of the communities. So what I now do is to publish my content in a newbie friendly community and keep going.
