When you hear of a spy movie, probably you’ll be expecting an action-packed movie with gunshots, chasing of car, explosions, and other usual dramas that come with spy movies. Black Bag seems to take a different turn because it main focus is secret, trust, how intelligent one can be in handling a problem, and also a complicated relationship between two spies who are married.
Kathryn was married to George, and they were both working as a spy. They are both intelligent and highly skilled in what they do. Even as a couple, they keep things to themselves due to the nature of their work. But then, something happened at their agency. They discovered that a program has been leaked, and George was given an assignment to find who was responsible for it. He was given the list for the suspect, and surprisingly, Kathryn, his wife, is part of the suspect.
Kathryn being part of the suspect makes the movie more interesting. At this time, I was already wondering how George is going to investigate his wife without making things look awkward at home 😀, and both of them are trained personnel. George thought about what to do, because everyone around him is an intelligence agent. Then he decided to call all of them to have a dinner, including their partners. For me, that’s actually a nice approach, because what else could he have done?
George was really calm with the situation, even though it looks complicated. George is this kind of person who will always keep a straight face, and you can tell that his brain is working every time. So, at the dinner, George used something known as truth serum to find out who might be lying. What should have been a normal dinner turned to something else quickly. At a point, I was like, “What kind of dinner part of this?” 😂 Honestly, the scene depicts what the movie is all about. It’s not all about action, but everyone of them was trying to figure out who telling the truth.
I found myself listening to their conversation. George was not really concerned about what was going on around them, rather, he was listening to them and collecting information from what they were saying. At a point, he start suspecting his is wife, due to the information he noticed from his wife. This made him to be more confused, and I understand how he feels, because how will you not trust the person you lived together with, you sleep together, and you began to wonder if she’s lying or telling you the truth.
Personally, me too, I’m not sure of who to trust. Even when I thought have figured out what was happening, another secret will be revealed, making me to question what I already believed. But then, good thing about the movie is that it doesn’t leave you completely confused. It will eventually give you the answers you’re searching for. At the end of the movie, different plans are being exposed, and people behind it are revealed. I love the way George and Kathryn handled everything between each other. They understood themselves, and their marriage depends on knowing when to trust each other.
The ending of the movie was satisfying, but I’ll be honest, some part was not perfect. Some part was complicated. I would have loved to see more of the supporting characters, but anyways, I enjoyed it. The actors acted well, and the movie is not that long to make you feel bored. I’ll recommend the movie if you have not watch it. However, if you’re the type that love an action spy movie, you might not love this, but if you love a movie with clever dialogue and mystery, then Black Bag is for you.
