Itās fall, which means itās time for some wonderful surprises again. Out in the parks and forests of our area, nature is once again showing itself from a very special side. Now in November, things will get really colorful, and on top of that, youāll find the most amazing fruits on the treesāwhich have caught my attention again this year.
Take this tree here, for example. This is the bald cypress (Taxodium distichum), which is related to the giant sequoia. Iāve noticed it in recent years, and now Iām always happy when I come across it somewhere.
And recently, it happened again. I almost tripped over one of its characteristic root knees, which you find all around the trunk of the bald cypress. And a glance upward confirmed my hunch.
These little round things are the fruit capsules of the bald cypress, which will all be lying on the ground very soon. And then Iāll come back and collect a few.
Just because itās fun. And because the capsules arenāt just stickyāthey also smell absolutely wonderful. They really smell like resin and fallāsomething you can definitely take home with you.
Oh, and I hope the weather cooperates. When the sun comes out soon, Iāll be out in nature in a flash, enjoying once again the amazing spectacle weāre currently being treated to...
DEUTSCH
