Happy new Monday to us all, needleworkmonday is usually a beautiful time to reconnect with friends in the community and be entertained with all the lovely designs that will be flowing in today. Unfortunately I miss several of my old friends here who have retired from blogging for one reason or the other and I wasn't keen enough get their other social media handles.
This is one of the beauty's I was able to sew yesterday evening after service. I was able to cut and join two wear, one for an expectant mother and then this other pleated skirt I had cut and sewn to practice how to sew a kissing pleated skirt.
Before now I am only used to sewing gathers and normal pleated skirt, but there is more to the types of pleats one can do on a skirt.
There is the box pleat, kiss pleats, Godget and several skirt design.
To make a kiss pleat skirt like this one, you have to learn how to take some measurements for the pleats go alright well and be equal. This is something I have no idea about but decided to use my discretion. The fabric was 60" by 45"
To start with, I cut out the length I desired my skirt to be which is 27", and from the 60" width I kept back 30" that will serve as the entire width of the skirt including zipper allowance.
The remaining width of the skirt is 30"
With this I determined the number of kiss pleat I wanted which was 6 in all. Two pleats at the front, back and sides.
The 30" was then divided by the number of pleats which is 6.
Meaning that each kiss pleat will be made using 5" of fabric.
To make the first please I measured out the mid point of the skirt which will be at the center from and notched it. From there I measured out 3.5" which will be my dart leg and the location of the kiss pleat.
Your kiss pleats must alighn with your fart lines and side seams.
The 5" was then divided into two, 2.5" for each of the half pleats that will join together to make one full kiss pleats.
Here I closes the half pleats and used pins to hold them down.
I repeated the process again using 5" to make the enture pleats 6 pleats on the skirt. Two pleats at the front dart legs and 2 pleats at the back, then two other pleats at the side seamlines.
After aligning my pleats very well, next was the stitching of the the skirt which I did with the electrical machine here.
You have to ensure that the pleats are properly closed in each other.
This is the final products after stitching. A zipper and waist band of your choice can be used and You can wear this skirt with any type of matching blouse or sew this into a dress.
I hope that my explanation is simple enough for anyone to desire to sew something like this.
