This is the massive progress we have experienced with our Turkey birds. Those little poults I have showed us of some months ago are now about 4months old. They are the ones with mixed color feathers you see behind.

We have finally decided to let them out of the cage. And the reason for that is not far fetched. Turkeys can start laying eggs as soon as they are 6months old. Hence we have let them out to mix with the others as well as the male counters parts for mating.

But while this was ongoing we lost a female poult yesterday. There was no sign of weakness or any sickness in her. We have to find out the cause of death to avoid any further losses of the turkey birds. After several back and forth we realized that the mating behavior here has been the reason for her death.

There are as many male turkey birds here, you can see from the picture. Whenever a female is ready for mating, all of these boys will go after her, we noticed that when we found them all rushing unto our second female turkey. Being only 4months with all these competition on her she was becoming weak and we had to rescue and return her back into the cage.

This must have been the reason for the death of the first turkey. She became weak from being climbed upon by all these males.
One must guard against these kind of mating attacks from the males.
If there were enough available space, male birds 🦃 should be isolated from the females, you can leave as many female birds with just a single male around them for mating. In situations where we have as many male birds against few female, it's evident that mating competitions like this can kill the females.

Now we are left with four out of the five female birds hatched unto us of this set. We are patiently waiting for the mothers of these birds to hatch new poults and when these ones will start hatching as well.
This is when the increase will be evident. We started with 2 birds,Ade it to about 8birds but now they have been reduced to 6, which is two mother turkeys and these 4babies. I hope that all of these documents will be important for anyone wishing to farm animals and these types of birds.
