Happy new day to us all, I hope that we had a peaceful light rest and are up and healthy feeling refreshed fo face a new day. This is exactly how I feel right now and I'm already arranging my working instruments to hit the road. We need some hoes and buckets of course if you want to ask about what instruments they are.
Lettuce is one of the crops we have enjoyed growing this year and preparation is already underway to harvest these ones. They are often allowed to spend just about 40days in the farm before they are all harvested. Except for lack of rain that places undue pressure on us, growing lettuce seams to be very easy.
Being a very fragile vetable it cannot endure any lack of rain that exceeds a weeks, they will dry off completely. This is how the irrigation exercise is carried out, the pumping machine/generator set is placed at the water bank while this long pipe travels all the way from there to the lettuce farm.
Now due to the nature of how the lettuce farm ridges is constructed, there is no amount of water that is pumped here that can climb up to the ridges. Buckets can now be used from here to carry water and pour on the individual lettuce plants.
Now lettuce ridges are constructed this way for one or two reasons, lettuce cannot be planted on lower grounds like other vegetables, besides this is one of the fields that is often waterlogged, too much of water is bad for lettuce and also lack of water is bad for it as well. Hence the ridges is constructed high enough just in case there is excess of rainfall and we need the farms a little bit drained.
And then again if the farms get completely dry one follows this process to wet the lettuce veggies.
At least now we have had some downpour and the lettuce are doing well. Logistic preparation on how they will be harvested and sold is already on. They have spent about a month already, even though the can gro bigger and bigger if allowed, the land is needed to grow something else before this raining seasons is over and hence they have to be harvested timely.
