Through the barriers...

Sometimes images can speak for themselves. On this occasion, @emiliorios invites us to reflect through different photographs that can make us feel or think about something specific, to reflect here in the Holos & Lotus community.
I love these types of initiatives because, as Emilio rightly says, sometimes there are things we cannot describe with words alone, and this kind of analysis helps us learn more about ourselves. I would like to invite @erigm and @mandysmoon to this initiative 💛.
The image I chose reveals two people in front of a wall. At first, I was going to write about loneliness or the importance of having someone to talk to in difficult times. But then, I looked closer and the idea came to mind of the barriers we build so as not to be seen, to go unnoticed, or to avoid getting hurt in life.
I have put up barriers, mostly to feel like I can protect myself from the dangers of the world, but in the end, while barriers can offer a little help, they can also become an obstacle to the good things. As human beings, we are terrified of getting hurt, especially by those we consider close to us, such as family, partners, or friends.
Perhaps some people have much higher walls than others due to negative past experiences, and even though that shouldn't be a reason to deny ourselves the beauty of life, somehow over time we can gradually lose trust and the desire to meet new people out of the same fear of reliving things that, according to us, are already in the past.
Trust, once broken, is extremely difficult to rebuild, especially when it stems from something that hurt us deeply. This is why I think human beings shelter themselves behind barriers when it comes to love, friendship, trust... Everything is connected, and when we lose one of those things that used to bring us together with others naturally and without any masks, it becomes hard to regain a sense of control over our own lives. Barriers almost always hold us back from letting life surprise us.
I view the wall in front as a barrier. Even though there are two people who might be friends or acquaintances, I know that looking beyond the surface, an idea comes to mind about not wanting others to cross the line that allows us to exist in front of others and that other line that lets us be ourselves with them.
Barriers can serve to protect us, but in the end, I believe they are a way of cutting off the positive things in life; perhaps behind that wall lies a meaningful friendship, a great love, a wonderful moment, or a memory. And it is worth giving ourselves the chance to live these experiences when they come our way, because second chances may not always come around.
