Hello HiveBookClub friends! I hope you are all doing well. I've finished reading another book by one of my current favorite authors: Paula Hawkins. This one was shorter than her books usually are, but it was really good and entertaining. What I love about her is that her stories always start one way and then unexpectedly turn into something completely different. The book I'm here to share with you today is called Blind Spot.
The plot follows the story of three friends: Edie, Ryan, and Jake. Inseparable since childhood—or at least since Jake started paying more attention to Edie, who is the only girl joining their group of three. For Edie, meeting Ryan and Jake was a massive change because she was quite shy and didn't know how to relate to others her age. However, as a trio, everything becomes more manageable. They get to know each other, spend nights partying, share their secrets and histories, and build a bond that seems nearly unbreakable—until Jake starts developing feelings for Edie and they begin a relationship that might leave Ryan feeling left out.
As Edie grows up, her head fills with big plans for the future, especially alongside Jake—her partner, whom she hopes to see thrive in the writing world. But the reality is that after months of marriage, everything turns chaotic. Jake no longer seems like the man Edie always saw in him. A lack of job opportunities gradually confines Jake inside their large home—the dream house he had promised Edie they would live in together. Located completely isolated from civilization, it sits right in front of a massive cliff. No people, no noise, no cars. Just Edie and Jake in that place, and it starts to make Edie uncomfortable.
In the middle of a conflict with Jake, Edie leaves the house, only to receive the worst news a few days later: Jake was murdered in his own home. It’s devastating, but she has to face everything that comes next—police looking for clues and information, and the terrifying possibility that Ryan is suspect number one. That is a heavy blow for her and for the bond the three of them shared. Returning to that house is difficult, but somehow Edie manages to go back amid failed attempts to sell it. Everything seems to stem from secret conflicts between Jake and Ryan that she knew nothing about.
This is the shortest book I've read by this author, but it's just as thrilling. It carries that signature noir thriller touch that makes it unmistakably hers—you can tell from the scenes, the drama, the mystery, and the completely unexpected twists. At first, I thought it might be slow, but as I kept reading, things escalated into long-kept or forgotten secrets that now deeply impact Edie and Ryan. It really shows how the things you do eventually find their way back to you.
It's dark and features scenes that genuinely chill you, mainly because you don't see anything coming past the halfway point. It made me reflect on how immaturity or fear can lead us to make choices we later regret, leaving us to face the consequences. That is essentially what the story is about, along with the idea that no matter how much time hides the truth, everything eventually comes to light. It was shocking because I didn't expect it at all; nothing at the beginning telegraphed what was going to happen.
It’s a very fast read if you’re not looking for something overly long, and I highly recommend it. The ending leaves you even crazier than the main plot twist—it felt like a second or third plot twist in a row! 😂 Even though I finished it quickly, it was completely worth it and holds its own against her previous works. Each has its own captivating touch, so I hope you give this one a chance! 👀☺️

¡Hola amigos de HiveBookClub! Espero que se encuentren bien. He terminado de leer otro de los libros de una de mis autoras favoritas de este momento: Paula Hawkins. Este fue más corto que lo que suelen ser sus libros, pero estuvo bastante bueno y fue entretenido, lo que me gusta de ella es que siempre empieza de una manera la historia y luego todo se torna de otra forma inesperada. El libro que les vengo a compartir se llama Punto Ciego.
La trama va sobre la historia de tres amigos: Edie, Ryan y Jake. Inseparables desde la infancia o al menos desde que Jake le presta mayor atención a Edie, quien es la única chica que se une a su grupo de tres. Para Edie conocer a Ryan y a Jake fue un cambio muy grande, debido a que era bastante tímida y no sabía cómo relacionarse con otros de su edad. Sin embargo, siendo tres todo se hace más llevadero, se conocen, comparten noches de fiestas, conocen los secretos e historias del otro y así crean un vínculo realmente difícil de romper hasta que Jake empieza a tener sentimientos por Edie y comienzan una relación que tal vez haría que Jake no se sintiera tan bien dentro del grupo.
Edie crece y con ella se llena su cabeza de grandes ideas para su futuro sobre todo junto a Jake, quien es su pareja y que además espera ver triunfando en el mundo de la escritura. Pero la realidad es que después de meses de estar casados todo se vuelve caótico, Jake ya no parece el hombre que Edie siempre había visto en él. La falta de trabajo y oportunidades va sumergiendo a Jake dentro de su casa, una gran casa que le había prometido Jake a Edie para vivir juntos. Una casa totalmente alejada de la civilización y con un gran acantilado frente a ellos. No hay personas, ni ruidos, ni autos. Solo están Edie y Jake en ese lugar y esto empieza a incomodar a Edie.
En medio de un conflicto entre Jake y Edie, ella se va de la casa y a los días recibe la peor noticia: A Jake lo asesinaron en su propia casa. Es algo horrible, pero ella tiene que enfrentarse a todo lo que viene ahora, policías buscando pistas e información y la posibilidad de que Ryan sea el sospechoso número uno. Eso es un golpe bajo para ella y para la unión que tenían los tres. Es complicado volver a esa casa pero de alguna manera Edie logra regresar en medio de intentos fallidos por vender esa casa. Todo parece ser producto de conflictos entre Jake y Ryan que ella desconocía.
Este libro es el más corto de los que leí de esta autora, pero es igual de emocionante y tiene ese toque de thriller con novela negra que hace que sea fácil saber que es algo que ella podría escribir, se nota en las escenas, en el drama, en el misterio y en lo que puede suceder que es totalmente inesperado. Pensé al comienzo que era un libro aburrido pero luego continúe y las cosas fueron escalando a secretos que no se sabían o que se habían olvidado en el tiempo de alguna manera, y que, ahora afectan terriblemente a Edie y a Ryan. Pero, creo que las cosas que haces tarde o temprano terminan por encontrar el camino de regreso a ti.
Es oscuro, tiene escenas que realmente te dejan frío, porque no esperas nada de lo que sucede después de leer más de la mitad del libro. Con esto reflexioné sobre cómo algunas veces por inmadurez o por miedo se hacen cosas de las que luego nos arrepentimos pero debemos enfrentar las consecuencias de las mismas. Básicamente de eso trata la historia y de cómo aunque pensemos que el tiempo puede ocultar cosas, en algún momento todo se termina por descubrir. Fue impactante porque no me lo esperaba para nada, no había nada que predijera al comienzo que eso iba a suceder.
Es bastante rápido de leer si no quieren algo sumamente extenso, les recomiendo leerse este libro, el final te deja mucho más loco que con el plot twist de la historia. Creo que ese final fue un segundo o tercer plot twist 😂. Aunque lo termine de leer rápido siento que valió la pena y que no tiene nada que envidiarle a sus anteriores obras, cada una tiene su toque interesante y vale la pena leer sus libros, espero puedan darle una oportunidad 👀☺️.
