Seeing the Hidden Message Behind Repeating Patterns.

Doesn't it ever happen to you that you experience situations that feel familiar, as if you were returning to a specific moment or place, and everything seems to repeat itself just like that last time? I don't know what this is called in psychology, but I think it's very common to feel like we are reliving something through an emotion, a feeling, or a connection between past experiences and newer ones. It's strange to feel this, but I think it has happened to all of us at some point.

They say that what isn't resolved isn't healed; it's repeated. It's hard to look at it objectively because many will say they don't want to repeat situations, and that we often even try to evade certain things when we feel an old belief might be repeating itself. However, I think it's a moment where we need to understand why we feel something is familiar or known, and take the opportunity to observe what that situation makes us feel or how we are thinking in that moment.

Nobody wants to relive difficult things, especially those that took so much effort to overcome or leave behind. But when the lesson isn't learned well, the same story repeats itself, even if it's with different characters and in different settings. I think this is necessary to learn to see what we keep doing that might be hurting us. I feel it's a time to search—rather than for the "why"—for how we can give it a different meaning from a more positive perspective, even if it feels like it can't be seen that way.

This happens a lot when we are connecting with others, when we start being in new places, or when we face the unknown. I think I'm someone who tends to compare people based on the impression they give me; for example, if right off the bat I feel someone isn't trustworthy or is argumentative, I prefer to step aside and not stay close to them. But maybe I also need to learn from what bothers me so much about others, because what is seen on the outside can be a reflection of what is inside.

Always projecting what we live onto the present is a way of punishing ourselves and wanting to always be right through what we experience in certain new situations. There might be similarities, it might be a similar situation, but we also have to look at why we are living this again or why we are always seeking, in some way, to repeat what happened in the past—as if we were looking for it when, in reality, we are trying to evade it.

There are certainly things we need to keep working on and healing. Nobody is perfect, but the healthiest thing is to accept what we know hurts us and doesn't allow us to live well. The things I know I need to keep working on are: learning to set boundaries in time and trusting again even if I've been hurt in the past. And also, understanding that everything we reject gains more strength and is reflected in others so that we can change from within.
