In this world we currently live in, it is difficult to truly connect with people despite having so many ways to do so. The issue is that it doesn't always feel natural or genuine; everything feels very artificial. I carefully read @syllem's post, and it reminded me that I have never actually had a friendship that could be considered true—the kind where you know you can just be yourself without feeling like you are exaggerating or hiding things just because the other person might feel uncomfortable or strange around you.
With very few people have I ever felt that I could share important things about my life, even though I am overly open and sometimes share personal matters that would be better kept to myself, since who knows how the other person might use them against me. I feel like every connection I have made has been temporary; I don't think I have ever experienced what it feels like to call someone my best friend, or to feel that under any circumstance I can just go and talk to that person about anything.
I've always been this way; I remember that when I was younger, it was very hard for me to connect with others. And when I did, I ended up disappointed upon realizing that those people didn't actually consider me a friend. Over time, I think I've learned to accept and understand that life is a somewhat lonely journey and that we won't always have company. It feels good when you can connect with others and feel understood, but if that doesn't happen, it shouldn't be the end of the world. We are born completely alone, and in the exact same way, we will leave this world alone.
It sounds exaggerated, but it is the reality; I think as a result of many things, I ended up isolating myself from the world as well. I don't feel like I relate to people my age, nor to those who are younger or older. I don't know if it has to do with my personality, but I dislike feeling like I'm in a place where no one really cares about my presence. I suppose life will keep guiding me anyway and will bring different kinds of people into my path. If I'm lucky, I might find people along the way who want my friendship not out of need, but because they genuinely want to be there.

I'm not completely closing myself off to the idea of continuing to meet people, nor to the possibility of finding a good friendship in the most unexpected people. Now that I am studying, I've seen all types of people, and I've realized that we often do so much just to avoid being alone that we even push ourselves aside just to fit in. I feel like I've already been there, and I don't want to repeat relationships where I'm the only one genuinely feeling a sincere friendship while the other person only sees a benefit in being around me—even when I feel I have nothing to offer.
But well, along the way, God always places the right people, perhaps to teach us to be more patient, more empathetic, and more open to the unknown. Maybe I haven't had the chance to have a friendship where I can share moments of both joy and sadness. I believe it is a true miracle to find a person who wants to stay despite the fact that we aren't perfect or have nothing to offer other than our friendship and support. But we should never stop wanting to connect with others just because of past experiences; not everyone is the same, and there are people who truly want to be present and who see things in us that might be almost invisible to ourselves.
