Right now, India is alive with the vibrant celebration of the 9 days of Navratri festival. These 9 nights are considered to be very sacred and dedicated to Goddess Durga. But along with following the spiritual practices on these 9 days, there is also 9 nights of celebrations blending with it. For a lot of people this festival is only about the 9 nights of dance and fun, with wearing traditional clothes and dancing on the Garba songs.
While 9 nights is impossible for me to go, so every year me and my friends pick up one night which is mostly on the weekend and we celebrate the festival. We dress up in traditional attire and visit one of the big Garba events organized in the city. The energy in this place is just so infectious. It is filled with people.
Normally for this kind of celebration people come in big groups, because it is fun with friends. It is not something that you celebrate solo. Having said that, if you do not have any one to go with, you can still go and then join one of the groups. Normally people are welcoming for such solo visitors. This time we had one such couple, I guess they were from Philippines. They must have come out of curiosity; they were alone and requested us if they could join. Of course we had no issues.
It's a colorful event, everyone is dressed in vibrant colorful traditional attires which is called Chaniya choli, along with special jewelry to go with it. For the dance, we move in sync in a circle. Some people are expert in the dance steps; some will just do whatever they know. There is nothing right or wrong; it's all about having fun and dancing our hearts out.
The place is decorated with lights and there is a DJ who will play the special Garba music.
This time we visited a venue which is one of the city's stadiums. There was good place for people to sit who did not want to dance or when you would get tired. It was extremely hot, within the first 15 minutes only I was drenched completely in sweat, but trust me we still have fun. For 2 hours we were dancing and having fun with all that heat killing us.
During the weekend the crowd is always more compared to weekdays.
It's still 3 more days for the festival. On the 10th Day is then Dusshera which is considered to be the day of the victory of good over the evil, and has a story of its own.
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
