Some people said it to my hearing that we can never be smarter than scammers. Like seriously? I don't believe this, even though I have been scammed before. It was a lesson and a guide from that day till date.
The raw lesson I learned the hard way made me stay conscious to date, and I can tell you for free that the said lessons have helped me avoid being scammed the second time. If not, I may have fallen another big victim, but once beaten twice shaa..
No doubt, scammers are smart, and that's how they succeed in most of their devilish acts. They go the extra mile most times, digging relevant information that helps them carry out a successful evil attack on their victims. It's only a pity, and I pity myself too for being a victim some years ago.
Mine was out of emotions; I fell a victim trying to help a friend that is stranded, not knowing that it was all a scam. If I knew my friend's Facebook account was hacked, I wouldn't have fallen for it, but I didn't know, and my friend too didn't deem it necessary to alert her followers.
That faithful Saturday, I received emotional messages from my friend's Facebook account, where she explained to me that her product she purchased in the market might become someone else if she doesn't pay immediately; meanwhile, she forgot her cash at home due to rush hour earlier that day. She pleaded that I pay the money into her customer account while she transfers the money back to me once she gets back home in an hour's time.
I was like, What are friends for? A friend in need is a friend indeed. I didn't think it twice to assist my childhood friend, especially knowing that she still lives in the village hustling for money via her business while waiting for her marriage while I am already in the city, married with kids. Out of emotion, there was no need for me to ask important questions; I just transferred the money to the said account immediately.
After like 20 minutes, the chat came again and asked if I could help add more money so she could buy more products, but I replied, telling her that I was sorry, as the only remaining money in my account was meant to buy drugs for my sick child. Surprisingly, she insisted that I send the money that she will soon send it back. I was like, 'My baby is running a high temperature; I need the drugs urgently. I can't wait,' but this dude insisted; she was obviously desperate.
That was a red sign, and I was wondering if this is actually my friend. At this point, I had to call her on the phone to be sure she was the one not wanting to understand that my son was sick. "My people", she screamed and said, "it's never her that her Facebook account was hacked; and she is sorry she should have told me.
"I was so sad! Like, what the heck? 💔 I tried everything to recover the money, but all to no avail!
But then, the good thing is that the experience taught me a hard lesson to date, and I have not fallen another victim ever since my past experience .
