Good morning, blog friends—how are you? We’ve seen better days; we’re going through a rough patch right now, dealing with both health and financial issues. My husband, in particular, is battling severe anxiety and depression. Yesterday was a grueling day spent running between lawyers and doctors. He was in a very bad way, plagued by dark thoughts; given everything that had happened, his instinct was to lock himself indoors and crawl into bed, but fortunately, I managed to convince him to go out for a bit. We didn't feel like cooking, given our gloomy mood, but since we can still afford a little treat, I suggested we go out. When you’re sad and disheartened, the urge to pull up the covers and cry is strong—and sometimes it is okay to take time to process your pain—but yesterday we were so low that I didn't want to shut ourselves away at home; I knew it would only make our mood worse, and staying inside to brood over problems doesn't solve them—it just makes you feel worse. So, we gathered our courage—I got dressed up and put on a little makeup—and headed out for some time together to take our minds off our troubles.
So we got ready and took a walk to our favorite pizzeria in town; we stopped there for an aperitif and tried to talk about lighthearted topics—food, TV series, household matters. Then we ordered two excellent pizzas—they really know what they’re doing there. My husband chose one of the best items on the menu: a focaccia stuffed with porchetta, tomato, and salad—a real treat when eaten hot, with the porchetta fat melting in your mouth. I ordered a lighter pizza with cooked ham and arugula; it was good too, but the porchetta one is special—in fact, I think I’ll order it myself next time. Going out for a good pizza did us good, and when we got home, we found our adorable cats waiting for us, as always; we showered them with cuddles—cuddling animals can be truly therapeutic. Afterward, we relaxed: my husband watched a horror series, and I read a great thriller—a really good book that I’ll be reviewing soon. We felt much better after a good night's sleep, and today we’re ready to tackle our problems one by one.
