Good morning, blog friends! Here I am for our Wednesday walk—a day late, I’m afraid. Yesterday, I was feeling quite depressed and also coming down with the flu, so I wasn’t able to post. In any case, I went to the library yesterday morning and took the opportunity to go for a longer stroll. Along the way, I passed by what we call "the cathedral"—it’s not a real cathedral, but rather a nod to the former Breda plant, a once-famous train manufacturing facility now owned by Hitachi. The site hosts events and trade fairs, and I particularly love the entrances and ticket booths, which are designed to look like trains. The structure itself also evokes old railway architecture, featuring a large concrete building punctuated by expansive windows. The style is industrial, and the surrounding area—with its iron and copper walls—further reflects the industrial past of this part of town, which is now filled with parking lots and supermarkets. There’s various graffiti on the walls; occasionally, some brave soul paints a mural, but these are often scrubbed away—the authorities seem to think they make an already unattractive area look even worse. I, however, believe that murals bring life and color to urban spaces that might otherwise feel rather bleak and lonely. During the day, this area is quiet, but unfortunately, at night, it becomes a haunt for drug users, making it a dangerous place—especially for a woman on her own. It’s a real shame.
Then I moved on to an area with more greenery and charm. As I walked around, I discovered several simple yet lovely houses that I really liked. It’s a quiet place for a stroll, featuring small trees and pretty flower beds—dressed in autumn colors—that brighten up the scenery. There’s also a small park with a few trees, though it isn’t very well-maintained; this is likely because this part of the city is less well-known than others. You’ll mostly find supermarkets, a few modest shops, and some auto body repair garages here. In any case, it was a peaceful and pleasant walk. See you soon, blog friends!
