Yesterday, I visited my friend's house. We hadn't seen each other in a long time. We hadn't seen each other for over a month, but we kept in touch through our WhatsApp group, always keeping in touch about each other's well-being.
Coincidentally, my friend, whom we usually hang out with, had given birth to a little boy at her house. So, my other friend and I went to visit. It was also a chance to visit her, who was sick, and to see the adorable baby, whom we'd only seen in photos she'd shared on the group.
Early that morning, I was busy in the kitchen preparing a marble cake to take there. We planned to eat there together later. Once cooked, my marble cake smelled delicious, filling the house. The aroma always tempted my husband. He asked me to cut it, but I allowed him to do so because I couldn't afford to make another one to take to my friend.
Time was running out, and I was already busy with another cake project. This cake is a favorite of many, including my husband at home. I often bring it to friends' houses when I visit because it's so simple to make.
So, around 12 noon, I arrived at my friend's house early. After relaxing for a moment, I immediately met a cute baby in his cradle, sleeping soundly in his crib. He was only 20 days old, so tiny and adorable.
After seeing the baby, my friend's order of tumpeng rice arrived, and she asked me to prepare it at the front table. She had already prepared pickled kiamboy, which has recently gone viral. Pickled kiamboy is synonymous with premium fruit; its appearance alone is very appetizing.
I placed the pickled kiamboy in a serving dish, eager to try it. I chose several pieces of fruit, including the kiamboy. Kiamboy is a fermented plum preserved with salt and sugar. It tastes like most fruit, sour, salty, and slightly sweet, and its texture is already very soft.
This pickled kiamboy went viral on social media yesterday, and I just tried it today at my friend's house. I tried the sauce; it had chili flakes, making it spicy, sweet, and sour, and definitely refreshing.
The combination of various fruits was perfect for my palate; there were pieces of apple, mango, pear, jicama, lime, snake fruit, and even red grapes. Everything was delicious, and I really enjoyed it, especially when it was cold out of the fridge. It was so delicious.
After enjoying the pickled kiamboy as an appetizer, my friend and I opened the tumpeng rice. We scooped it up and served it in our own serving dishes.
I had actually tried this tumpeng rice before at a halal bi halal celebration at my friend's house a few months ago. However, because my friend knew we were coming, she ordered the tumpeng rice again.
The liwet rice was ordered from the same place as yesterday's event, and served on a large tray. The rice was neatly arranged, with an omelet around it and a variety of delicious side dishes. One serving of this liwet rice can serve 10 people, and the menu is complete. The side dishes include balado shrimp, galangal fried chicken, fried tempeh with sambal, and fried noodles with egg.
All the dishes were delicious, the flavors just right; the fried chicken wasn't tough and was perfectly cooked. My favorite was the balado shrimp, which had just the right amount of spiciness and had chunks of potato in it.
I really enjoyed it, even adding side dishes to the delicious fried noodles several times. Beyond my expectations, everything tasted perfect. The day went warmly, and I was there for almost four hours, chatting while eating and sharing many things.
I also had the chance to take a photo with my best friend's baby; he was so adorable, I hope I can have a cute baby soon. I asked my friend to take a photo for me as a souvenir. I was so happy to be a part of that day.
