We always say—and I agree—that rest is part of training. Yesterday I had planned to go out for a ride, taking advantage of the first days of spring in Argentina and the bright sunshine that was beckoning me, but due to various twists and turns in my daily life, I got a flat tire on my bike, and since it was already late, I decided to skip the ride. That prompted me to relax and take a lovely nap, just as my parents used to do in the city of Corrientes, Argentina.
It seems that in order to improve athletically—and in life itself—we must always be doing something. And if it involves movement, all the better, because it seems that when you’re moving, you’re really working. I think these are ideas that have taken root in us and that we’ve come to believe. When you meditate and are in silence, doing nothing, you’re also doing something. When you take a nap and give your body and mind the rest they need, you’re also doing something. The thing is, we’re led to believe that we have to be constantly on the move—and, if possible, consuming. Does that happen to you, or is it just me?
Yesterday was my friend Jorgelina’s birthday, and whenever someone’s celebrating, I always think about food. The same question: Does this just happen to me, or to you too? The thing is, my oldest son was making some breaded cutlets to take to work, and I asked him to make one for me because I was craving a breaded cutlet sandwich mid-morning. I really enjoyed it… Of course, that was a morning slip-up, but lunch is a must 🤣. But hey, I console myself by thinking that I’ll burn off those extra calories from yesterday by going for a run. I didn’t work out and I ate too many calories. These things happen 🙏
Like every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I go to my friend Whasss’s gym, and today is another one of those days. I think it’s just an excuse to get together and chat—almost like therapy—about just about anything. We talk about soccer, cycling, and even topics I don’t even want to mention, and of course, laughter and guffaws are always part of the mix. It’s the only time of day I listen to music because I don’t do that at home. It’s something I need to work on, because sometimes my kids ask me, for example, who Los Redondos de Ricota are. That’s because I’ve never played music at home—I’m always busy doing something, and since my work is in audiovisual media, I can’t multitask. Or maybe I can, but that’s my excuse. For those who don’t know, the band I mentioned is an Argentine rock band.
Here's a collection of songs by this iconic Argentine band—if you don't know them, it's because you've practically never lived in Argentina. My kids sometimes give me a hard time about that. But hey, as parents, we always have our shortcomings. ___ Last but not least, on my most recent ride to Luján—a nearly 200-km trip during which I got two flat tires—I didn’t realize that the rim of my bike, right at the welded joint, had come unwelded. An accident could have happened, but thank goodness it didn’t. Now I have to replace it right away, and by the way, it’s not as cheap as it seems. I wanted to have it welded back together, but I was told that it wouldn’t be the same and that it’s very dangerous. It’s really a shame because these days it’s difficult—though not impossible—to buy a new rim for my road bike. That’s all for today, dear friends. Warm regards to everyone from my blog. Feliz día 🧉 Sources: Screenshot taken with my Samsung S22 cell phone. Credit to the shared YouTube channel.
