Es que cuando todo indicaba que el evento estaría como casi todos los años, ocurren acontecimientos inesperados que transforman el momento, pero cuando sos consciente de que no somos tan importante y que el show debe continuar, suceden cosas aún más maravillosas. Cumpleaños número 66 del amigo Trejo, creador y fundador del grupo El Ciclón de Ezeiza.

Because when everything pointed to the event being like almost every year, unexpected things happen that transform the moment, but when you’re aware that we’re not that important and that the show must go on, even more wonderful things happen. The 66th birthday of our friend Trejo, creator and founder of the group El Ciclón de Ezeiza.

Su esposa, la Pelu, nos invitaba para la noche, para que pasemos a pasar un momento agradable junto a todo el grupo. In the morning, the WhatsApp group was on fire with so many messages greeting the birthday boy. His wife, la Pelu, invited us over for the night, so we could stop by and have a nice time together with the whole group. Trejo’s family is very used to having people over at their house almost every day. I mean, whenever you swing by, they always have visitors. Mientras disfrutábamos de riquísimas empanadas fritas, saliéndonos de nuestras cuestiones nutricionales cotidianas, la gente seguía llegando y la persona que brillaba por su ausencia era la Pelu. Por supuesto que todos imaginamos que la señora estaba preparando una sorpresa para todos. Una sorpresa que no sería sorpresa, porque siempre lo hace. “Debe estar maquillándose, colocándose sus pelucas y todas esas cuestiones que a ella le sale tan natural y lo hace tan divertida”. Pero no, todo lo contrario. La Pelu estaba acostada, con frío y mucha fiebre, y mandó a decir que más tarde, cuando se sintiera un poco mejor, saldría a saludarnos a todos. Su hija estaba junto a ella y era la única que podía pasar a la habitación. Y lo que más me llamó la atención fue la tranquilidad del amigo Trejo para estar con los amigos como si nada pasara. El show debía continuar por orden de la Pelu. Nada iba a interrumpir que festejemos el cumpleaños. Eso me llamó poderosamente la atención. Pero, pensándolo bien, y estando ellos acostumbrados a estar en eventos y eventos, es lo conducente.
While we were enjoying some delicious fried empanadas, stepping away from our everyday nutrition routines, people kept arriving, and the one person who was conspicuously absent was la Pelu. But, thinking it over, and since they’re so used to being at one event after another, it’s the sensible thing to do.
Además de las empanadas, también disfrutamos de un rico pernil de cerdo y pizzetas. Este año no hubo asado, pero igualmente hemos comido en demasía y disfrutado con los amigos de siempre. Imagínense: el 90% ciclista, y la charla siempre circula sobre esos puntos. Pero el tema en cuestión era qué pasaba con la Pelu. Trejo más o menos nos contó, hasta que, al final, la hija tomó la decisión de llevarlo a la clínica para que lo vean. Por suerte, fue una gran decisión... Porque estuvo a nada de que lo dejen internado. Lo normalizaron y, hasta lo que sé, tiene una infección urinaria, pero que ya está absolutamente controlada.
Besides the empanadas, we also enjoyed a tasty pork leg and some pizzetas. There was no asado this year, but we still ate way too much and had a great time with the usual friends. Just imagine: 90% cyclists, so the conversation always revolves around that. But the big topic was what was going on with la Pelu. Trejo more or less filled us in, until finally her daughter made the call to take her to the clinic to get checked. Luckily, it was a great decision... Because she was this close to being admitted. They got her stable and, as far as I know, she has a urinary infection, but it’s already completely under control.
Un cumpleaños atípico, pero coherente con el estilo de vida que tiene la familia. Siempre organizando eventos y, por supuesto, más allá de las vicisitudes en el camino, ellos continúan con lo que había que hacer. Una familia muy querida, rodeados de sus hijos, nietas, familiares y el grupo en general.
