Grata sorpresa...
Sunday, October 27, 2026, we planned a long-distance training ride, hoping the sun would show up at some point. 7 in the morning, we left home with my friend el Wash, and this time I invited Lautaro, my client from Cleanworkpvc, whose Instagram account I manage, and now his Facebook too. A young guy, about 33 years old, who would help quite a bit in the pack and, honestly, it lasted a very short time. The guy’s bike broke and he had to head back riding easy, and, as always, the old guys kept going forward. I had the contact of a kiosco in the town of Gobernador Udaondo on Instagram, and I dared to message him the day before. I asked the man if he could prepare something warm for us to eat, but not to tell me what, because I wanted it to be a surprise. A pleasant surprise...
In the town of Brandsen we passed a monument to the Malvinas and, thanks to the universe, the headwind eased up there. The 70-year-old man, because of his trade, won’t take a pull for even two meters 😅. So imagine how he was fighting against the wind. Then we reached the town of Loma Verde, where we also have some friends. They also have a place to eat, and the peculiar thing is that they have a rancho that they say dates back more than 150 years. We stayed a little while, said hi, took a quick photo at the rancho and kept going. The idea was not to cool down and to keep a steady pace. Gobernador was waiting for us, and these friends were waiting with lunch. In Loma Verde I called him through Instagram and told him we were close to reaching Udaondo. Honestly, I don’t know the names of these people, neither the girls from Loma Verde nor the family from Udaondo. And this is one of the key points I wanted to tell this Hive Argentina community. You don’t need to know who people are for them to serve you and welcome you as if we were lifelong friends. This happens in the interior of the province of Buenos Aires in this case, and in Argentina in general. Not everything is bad news and the world, luckily, is mostly populated by good people.
Almost at noon we arrived at our friends’ kiosco and I thought there were only dogs, they weren’t expecting us. The lady tells me: “Sit wherever you like and I’ll bring it in a moment.” About 10 more minutes, because she wanted to serve the food nice and warm. A couple of burgers with fries and two huge cans of beer. Imagine how happy we got, and time to refuel properly. The man of the house came and took a photo of us to post on his Instagram, sharing the chisme that two cyclists from Ezeiza had arrived at the place, and that seems key to me these days, when, if you don’t have an online presence, as a business you practically don’t exist. Every time I go to these almacenes, it reminds me of the roughly 15 years I had mine and how fruitful those times were. Luckily I was able to leave it and redirect my path toward things I enjoy more. I don’t know if the burger was that tasty, but the affection and love put into it could be felt from a distance. After lunch we bought a few sweet things and headed back.
The cold body and the wind that wouldn’t stop, I don’t know whether to move forward at a slow pace, but this time with the wind slightly in our favor. A full belly and all the blood trying to digest what we ate made the ride back hurt a lot more. As always, el Wash wouldn’t leave the wheel. But the back one, because for him to move to the front it would take a miracle 😅. Still, it’s very understandable, because at 70 years of age, the guy was about to ride 159 km. Saying it is one thing, but living it is a whole other story.
Nobleza obliga, we stopped by to say hi at the La Fortuna almacén, and there was less and less to go. Our whole bodies hurt and we were barely even sweating anymore, but we knew that when we reached Ruta 3 we’d have a tailwind for about 10 km, and then the last stretch was left, from Cañuelas to Ezeiza, which is around 33 km. A really tough journey, but we made it.
Once I got home, Zuni had lunch ready and, of course, the burgers never existed, and I enjoyed the delicious roast beef, with a mandioca salad and some roasted beets. A great training day, friends of the road, who make the journey more pleasant.
