Banco del arte

Click here to read this post in English

Hola querido hiver.

Art bench

English

Hi, dear hiver.

This post is finally seeing the light of day two and a half years after it was first conceived. I didn’t know this collection of painted benches existed until I read this post by @mipiano – and they’re in my own city! If you have a look at the comments on that post, you’ll see that even back then I told them I’d visit them on a sunny day to see the difference. And that brings us to today. 😂

IMG_1963.JPG

Modern Zaragoza bench

IMG_1964.JPG

Aragonese gastronomy bench

IMG_1965.JPG

Jota (traditional dance) bench

IMG_1966.JPG

Zaragoza orchard bench

The benches were painted in 2022 and 2023 to mark the Zaragoza Florece Festival. The designs and their execution were carried out by students from the Zaragoza School of Art, and the project was called ‘Colourful Benches’. On some of them, you can make out the artist’s name, and I recommend you check out their Instagram accounts. That’s how I found out that I’d seen later works by some of them.

IMG_1969.JPG

Big-Headed Figures bench

IMG_1962.JPG

IMG_1970.JPG

Pillar bench

IMG_1971.JPG

Goya bench

IMG_1972.JPG

Aragonese cinema bench

The wear and tear caused by the passage of time and the elements is clearly visible, and I was saddened that they haven’t been repainted to preserve the designs. Although perhaps in the future a new cohort of art students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents through a similar initiative.

IMG_1974.JPG

IMG_1980.JPG

Love bench

IMG_1982.JPG

Sports bench

IMG_1984.JPG

Next to each bench is a plaque bearing its name, as well as the names of the companies that sponsored the project.

IMG_1985.JPG

Diversity bench

IMG_1987.JPG

Equality bench

IMG_1989.JPG

Joy bench

IMG_1990.JPG

Gastronomy bench

In the 2022 edition, the benches that were painted were those along the Paseo de los Bearneses, and the themes were mostly abstract concepts such as love, solidarity and joy...

Fashion bench

IMG_1993.JPG

Respect bench

IMG_1995.JPG

Education bench

IMG_2002.JPG

Nature bench

The following year, in 2023, they worked on the benches located behind the Botanical Gardens. This time, their designs focused on themes related to Zaragoza and Aragon.

  • @mhe(67)· 35d

Wow what a nice colorful it's unique color that can inspire to look or see like this🤗

  • @wongi(73)· 36d

These are such beautiful and vibrant looking chairs. Just seeing the colours make me happy, I can only imagine how I'd feel if I sit on them.

We have something similar to this in my city but the chairs are all painted with single colours. No extra designs on them. However, the walls surrounding the chairs have amazing designs.

    Here is an example.

  • @mipiano(81)· 36d

Los bancos de Zaragoza llegaron 🥰 I am happy to see your post and these benches again, as if I was walking there again. I won't choose a favorite as I like them all but you are right, maybe some new paint would come in handy but without changing their design Gracias Paloma y un gran abrazo!!

Buenas noches Paloma, ¡¡vaya colección de bancos!! Estoy impresionado...

    Muchas gracias. ¡¡Feliz noche!!

Good evening, Paloma! What a collection of benches! I'm impressed... Zaragoza is an amazing city. It's a shame about the lack of maintenance, although the collection is still wonderful.

Of all the benches, I'd choose the one for the elderly. A bench with cushions—that's a proper bench.

Thank you so much. Have a good night!

    Good morning, dear friend @palomap3.

What a beautiful collection of benches you've shared with us; honestly, I've never seen anything like it before. What a brilliant idea to decorate street benches with beautiful works of art; I especially loved the Goya bench, the respect and diversity, although I have to say they're all gorgeous.

    Have a wonderful day.
