Superhero Cinema is a massive machine and an architectural structure that has constantly shaped, adapted, and mutated its approaches through varied stories and visions to connect emotionally, familiarly, thoughtfully, and nostalgically with the entire audience 🥹🥹.... But I think that much more than the stories, the most powerful thing Cinema has given us is living faces with the soul of those comic panels—people who became the characters from those stories drawn on paper, and when you look at those actors.... You forever see those characters who have grown alongside us 🥲🥲
Patrick Stewart is the actor who became Professor X of the X-Men; he is one of the original pillars that started the current focus on characters in modern Superhero Cinema. In the year 2000, the iconic X-Men franchise belonging to the Legendary Fox was released, a moment that marked the turning point for an architectural machine capable of generating billions of dollars at a single box office. And this great gentleman, even in this era, 26 years after that theatrical release, was still a vital part of this Heroic Cinematic Architecture 🤯🤯
He has already said goodbye to us, but he leaves behind a character that will forever wear his face
In this review focused on Patrick Stewart's character of Professor X, I think what the actor conveyed best was the aura of wisdom 🤔🤔—being that person whom the rest of the characters could turn to for advice, and in the process, he managed to pass on reflections just as if he were a teacher, but a teacher of life.
A character who fights to do what is right, he reminds me very much of Luther King and Lincoln. Patrick managed to reflect that diplomatic aura onto a character who basically deals with the Hatred associated with racial conflicts, which in his case applied to granting equal rights to Mutants, to each and every one of them—a character whose life is a noble crusade for the Rights of his fellow Mutants.
There is so much effort in today's world to introduce these progressive characteristics into stories, and look at how back in the 2000s, in their own way, the X-Men coherently, correctly, and intellectually established an analogous social conflict in an exciting way for the whole family 🤯🤯.
The weight on the shoulders of this movie, when analyzed in detail, is overwhelming, and yet many of its actors managed to convey the impossible struggles of their characters through their performances. I fall short by saying that Patrick is one of the Pillars of everything that has been built.
As a character, he reflected his social struggle very well by being someone with predominantly diplomatic traits. And mind you, I am not a fan of diplomacy; I feel that many times it is just disguised hypocrisy, but it is undeniable that in real history there are people who actually sacrifice their lives for peace. Patrick's Charles Xavier creates a lot of resonance between this idea and the audience.
The Last Stand might be heavily criticized, but I think it did give us a good farewell for Charles back in that era 🤔🤔—a farewell that I share metaphorically with the YouTube video associated with that scene, where Charles, with all his wisdom, says not to let it control you..... It is up to each person to decide what it is they shouldn't let control them; it could be anger, hatred, or negative ideas that don't allow us to be happy 🤔🤔.... Charles Xavier tells us not to let ourselves be controlled by those bad feelings, and the man is absolutely right.
Patrick's Charles Xavier shows a very palpable chemistry with the rest of the actors across various movies, for instance, with Wolverine and Jean. In fact, he blends beautifully with anyone, but at a story level, the one he complements best is Erik, the legendary Magneto 😱😱.
Chess reflects Charles's intelligence and strategic capacity, but chess takes two to play; that is where the element of friendship makes us value Patrick so much more 😃😃.
The way he smiles, the way he debates—it gets to a point where you don't know if you want to see him use his powers or watch him debate Magneto for hours while playing chess, haha 😂 😂.
And mind you, that is hard to achieve, because superhero audiences generally want action and more action, special effects, and more special effects with colors all over the place. Charles Xavier is one of the few characters who manages to draw audiences into his intellectual territory without being boring.... What a stellar level from this actor!
It is pure nostalgia what the superhero fandom is experiencing right now due to the passing of this actor, which will carry over until the release of Avengers: Doomsday. There, we will witness his final legacy for Superhero Cinema and for us 🥹🥹👍🏻
