Baby Bee at Jose Vicente Gutierrez Square (Eng/Esp)

This time, the little bee accompanied me on a new adventure; we visited Jose Vicente Gutierrez Square, which was recently renovated and now looks very colorful and eye-catching. When passing by here, it’s impossible not to stop and linger for a moment in contemplation, because this place used to lack the decorations it has now.

Perhaps the most striking features today are its modern benches, its lighting, and the logo painted on the ground—two hands joined in prayer, with waves beneath them symbolizing the sea, a symbol of Sucre’s coastline. On the wall, the plaza’s name is written in black cursive letters.

Alma was happily running all over the place, and although it isn’t very large, it’s the perfect size for children to play and have fun for a while. Some of the gardens are still being developed, but there are also lush trees providing shade. It’s clear that the renovation also included pruning, which helps keep the plaza clean for longer.

The benches have a modern design, similar to those in Ezequiel Zamora Square, so they’re part of the public space renovation program carried out by the Sucre Municipal Government. It’s worth noting that this square used to have a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin of the Valley, but it was removed to widen the internal walkways and thus create more space for benches, trash cans, and gardens.

This square is often a resting spot for people passing through The Mirador or coming up from Corporiente—both of which are steep hills that require a break to catch one’s breath and continue on.

Esta vez la pequeña abeja me acompañó a una nueva aventura, visitamos la plaza José Vicente Gutiérrez, misma que fue remodelada recientemente y luce muy colorida y vistosa. Al pasar por aquí es inevitable mirar y quedarse un rato en modo contemplación porque este sitio anteriormente carecía de los actuales ornamentos.

Quizás lo más llamativo en la actualidad sean sus modernos bancos, su iluminación y el logo que pintaron en el piso, allí se distinguen dos manos, juntas en forma de oración, debajo unas olas haciendo referencia al mar, símbolo de las costas sucrenses. En la pared se lee en letras cursivas y en color negro la identificación de la plaza.

Alma estaba feliz corriendo por todo el lugar y, aunque no es de grandes dimensiones, tiene el tamaño ideal para que los niños jueguen y se diviertan un rato. Algunos jardines están en pleno desarrollo, pero también se dejan ver frondosos árboles que dan sombra. Se puede advertir que la remodelación también incluyó la poda, lo que contribuye a mantener la plaza limpia por mayor tiempo.

El diseño de los bancos es moderno, son similares al los que están ubicados en la plaza Ezequiel Zamora, así que forman parte del programa de remodelación de espacios públicos que realiza la Alcaldía del Municipio Sucre. Es de hacer notar que esta plaza tenía una pequeña capilla dedicada a la Virgen del Valle, pero fue eliminada para ampliar las caminerías internas y por lo tanto abrir más espacio para ubicar los bancos, papeleras y jardines.

Esta plaza suele ser uno de los puntos de descanso para las personas que transitan vía El Mirador o vienen subiendo por Corporiente, ambas cuestas empinadas que requieren una pausa para recuperar el aliento y seguir adelante.
