Happy Saturday, Shadow Hunters community! It’s been a long time since I last participated in these shadow-hunting spaces; sometimes, the perfect moment just presents itself, and you happen to have your phone on hand to capture it. This is my entry for Round #449—I spotted these shadows while stopping by to say hello to and play with the pets at my workplace.
As I made my way toward one of the pets being looked after, the sun was scorching, casting shadows across the structures. Blue, one of the pets, began jumping for joy; even though I had been away for many months, he started wagging his tail the moment he saw me approaching.
He began jumping for joy—and, of course, he brought along some tasty food, just in case I didn’t recognize him. Blue’s leaps are incredibly high; he truly has extraordinary strength in his hind legs. He has caught rats, birds, and iguanas, and has even scared off thieves in the area with his barking.
Then I noticed the shadow being cast by the intensity of the sun at that time of day. I hadn’t set out to capture shadows, but when life gives you the chance to see them, you can’t help but notice them everywhere.
The shadow cast by its jump is fantastic—that tail acting as a counterbalance, with all its legs off the ground. We’ve often worried that it might jump so high it would clear the fence or get itself snagged on the pipes. There was a period when it managed to escape several times; it learned how to push the gate’s latch or bolt, giving us quite a few scares.
If I hadn’t seen him jumping about, I wouldn’t have noticed the shadow forming inside his little house. Honestly, I’m glad he accepted me instead of barking or acting aggressively toward a stranger. His mother, Kylia, is in the other little house; she’s quite old and nearly blind—relying on her sense of smell to get around—but she suffers from no other health issues.
The ceiba tree bore the brunt of a wild, raging gale; its broken branches tell us just how powerful nature can be in its various manifestations.

Sombras inesperadas
