ENGLISH VERSION
Yesterday afternoon, I went out for a walk—it was a political event, a gathering involving political parties and the public, featuring a message from María Corina. I am certain she will be the next president of Venezuela, once elections are held next year. There was a good turnout, considering the short notice—in fact, this was the second attempt at holding the event, as the first had to be called off due to the wild winds and extreme rain I mentioned in another post. This occurred in the city of Barcelona, in the state of Anzoátegui, Venezuela, where the storm knocked down trees, signs, and many roofs in the area.
The venue—a sports court—wasn’t very large, yet a good number of people showed up. Even I decided to make the trek, walking several kilometers to reach the spot in Puentecito, Boyacá. The sun was scorching, so I brought along a parasol—or an "umbrella," as we call it here. As I got closer, my body began to crave a rest; fortunately, I was accompanied by some neighbors. Walking through that park—the very same place where I used to take my beloved pet, Nano, for walks—brought back memories.
I didn’t want to show those accompanying me the discomfort and pain I felt in my legs; to myself, I kept saying, "One more step—keep going, there are only a few kilometers left." Physical pain can be eased with a pill, but the pain felt for one’s country can only be eased by working for it.
Present at the political event was Omar González—a leader from the Vente Venezuela movement—who had spent a year inside the Argentine Embassy in Caracas before eventually going into exile. He brought a message of encouragement and strength for the country from their leader. She is very clear on this point: a nation cannot be recovered after 20 years of having its reserves drained and its young people—its human capital—driven away.
People are smiling and in good spirits. They remain steadfast with every step. It is not about a politician to be won back, but an entire country to be conquered.
Yet, as the title suggests, we keep going—we do not stop until we have covered that extra mile, whether through marches or gatherings.
