Halfway to the finish line

IMG_3866.jpeg

Somehow 5 days went by and I was completed deflated and unable to work on the album but then last night at 10 PM, all the excitement came back and so started mixing again until 3 AM.

I think the overwhelming scope of this project finally got to me. We finished about half the work but it had taken about 6 weeks of intense focus and a completely packed schedule that wore me out.

A reset was inevitable.

Finally we had to take a break for 3 days to practice for our show and when the show finished we just crashed utterly and completely, under the weight of knowing we would have another 4-8 weeks of such intense work.

But songs 1-8 are completely recorded and just need a little cleaning up and a lot of mixing. A LOT of mixing. The first song took about 40 hours of mixing after about 15 hours of take 2 take 3 and then adding layers.

The second song took a lot less time. About 5-8 hours to record and now mixing mixing for 5 hours I think I just have 2-3 hours left.

So it’s good to know not every song will take 50+ hours, although this might have been the smoothest song to record. It’s a bit more spacious but still very layered.

Considering the easier song took 12-15 hours and the harder song took 55, it’s safe to say the other 5 proper songs will take about 15-20 hours.

That being said there are 2 songs we already did a lot of mixing on so we may only have 3 songs left with that crazy level of commitment. The goal of the next 2 weeks is to clean up all the loose ends so that those last 3 will become the final stretch.

After my 5 hours of mixing I started practicing that last song I need to finish writing and moved it from acoustic to electric and decided it will also be electric like 80% of the album.

I also decided there will be an 11th track that I’ll release as a single after the album is complete, an alternate version of that song which will become the fourth single from the album.

The song will serve as a supplement that helps orient the listener to the songs on the album.

Our first single from the album could be up this week. It all depends on cdbaby. I am looking into other distributors which release faster. I will try to get our next singles out within 5-7 days, this 3 week wait or $35 for normal speed is silly.

That means by the end of this coming week the promotion cycle for our live album will start winding down and we will have to start promoting the new album, so if you haven’t heard “Resonance Experiments 1-2” check it out in the link in my signature.

This past week I ran a campaign where I buy $5 of Hive for each person who leaves a comment on my songs from scrobble.life which will turn those comments into snaps with the song for people to listen to.

I think I got something like 21 shares! So that’s $105.

We got through the first half of the album, and we will get through the next half this coming week.

Feel free to go back and leave comments on any songs you missed, or on one of my music videos or live videos or songs from the EP on scrobble.life. I will be upvoting them all.

Things are gonna start heating up around here, as the weather starts to cool down. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
