[TV] Silo (2023): Gray Goo - S03E08 - RECAP

Source

Silo, Gray Goo is just fire from the start, showing how Patrick and Lukas still alive and giving us a different perspective of when they entire Silo 17 at night with Lukas shot, very different that when Juliette went in. The drone did found them, Lukas got shot near his left shoulder and when they still listening the drone they decided to stay in the floor so who ever was the pilot think that they are dead, then when the drone left they quickly get on their feet and run to the Silo 17, where Lukas is treated by Jimmy and Patrick is amaze for everything they have there like pictures of how was the world before the chaos, its such an incredible moment that takes you all the way back to Season 2 and all the time that Juliette spend there. It was a good start because I was thinking how is that they continue alive if the algorithm notify that they were dead, and how did the drone didnt get close enough to verify this or it didnt have some sort of heat detector, like come on it was just too easy. Juliette also feels relief because they can continue with the original plan that is look for the safeguard pipe. This episode also show the change that Patrick has as a character from a persona that felt lonely and sad in his Silo but now that he has to face another dead body, that is Jimmy's mother, he talk to Jimmy like a person who understand his pain because he already passed through it with his own wife and also gave him an option to honour his mother for the sacrifice she made for all the kids in her Silo, Jimmy's mother sealed herself inside the wall to stop the poison the reach the silo and kill the children. Patrick performance on this episode was honestly some of his best job on the series because he has to talked with a person that in some way still think like a child, that has suffer loneliness for a long period of time and now with his understanding could guide Jimmy to say goodbye to his mother in a good way, probably making both characters grow at the same time, who knows they become very close besides they both conspirative AF.

Juliette's Safeguard Plan Turns Into a Sacrifice

Gray Goo episode makes very clear that even though they know how to solve the problem of the safeguard pipe it doesn't mean that is going to be an easy task since they have to go behind the Algo and Camille, I dout they pull it off without any type of confrontation or people dying. Lukas figures out that the mother of Solo cut into the pipe and used heat to deal with the poison before sealing herself inside, which gives Silo 18 something to work with, and Shirley suggests pinching the pipe instead of copying the same method. They realize that they need to knock down a wall and they send Shirley to take care of this task thinking that the silos has the same distribution inside them, but Juliette realizes that the silos are not place in the same way, the same direction, so the wall that needs to be knock down is in other place of the silo. In this moment I though Juliette is really smart, because the end into that conclusion from a previous conversation that she has with Bernard about the distribution of the 49 silos and how the safeguard pipe is connected to them and she though that instead of having 49 individual pipes for each silo could be more safe made for groups of seven, so from every seven silos another seven connect to the other groups of pipes, I think its a bit more complicated trying to describe it in words rather than how she makes the drawing for the distribution of the safeguard. The truth is that thanks to her Shirley didn't do something stupid, what really shift the direction of things is that they almost get caught and here is were Juliette basically had to sacrifice herself for the success of the operation, Juliette asked Shirley to hide while she was arrested, that is loyalty and friendship, because is really hard for some people do that kind of sacrifice but I know that Juliette will always try to keep her people safe, thats why Camille eventually knows she cant let Juliette to stay alive because she will never stop. Camille put Juliette in the same cell she already has her husband Sims so probably they can talk and she can have any confession but it will difficult because Sims says no word, he knows the way they operate at this level. Now that Juliette was arrested you probably think that everything is fuck up and the plan has come to a stop but its the total oppsite because this people not only will try to rescue Juliette but also keep the Silo safe at the same time, damn MacGyver ngl. I do enjoy that when a group of characters on the series have such levels of conviction no matter the circumstances they prove why their leader believe in them.

Billings Uncovers Harwood's Elevator Secret

Knox after being looking for his father finally found him and asked him how he did to survive and he says that he built something for Harwood and received a new life outside the mines in exchange. Knox took his father to Billings where he told that story, that Harwood will fake his dead so he can have a better live and to received that prize he must built something for him with diamonds drills and it was an elevator that connects the mines to the supplies room. In that moment Billings understand how Glenda can move fast and appear in different places no matter that they were really far apart from each other, but it doesn't solve the question about the missing bulbs lights neither resolve the doubt of who kill Orla. For me this part of the episode was really cool, because Harwood always says that the mines is a place where people is send to die but he is the owner of the mine, he make Knox build an elevator for him, Harwood has bee running the place that much to the point that he rules it and it doesnt seem like the Algo or Camille put so much effor to control the mines, in fact this is the first time during the entire series that it has so much screen time, it is incredible that a despicable place like the mines has a king and that no one keeps him in check, just amazing. Returning to Billings, if he is in fact doing a better job, he finally feels that he is so close to get the answer he need thats why he asked Harwood why need an elevator and he says that was to protect the most important supplies in case of an rebellion, all he did was to stole the bulbs and also mention that he and his daughter has nothing to do with Orla's dead, Billings obviously doesn't believe everything, he is totally sure that Harwood is hiding something but its almost like Billings has it all figure out. Something that I wasn't expecting and was a surprise is that person that apparently killed Orla was her own boyfriend, that was also stealing supplies, uncovering more lies than trues, adding more and more drama to the side plots of this season.

The Before Times Reveal Why the Silos Were Built

The before time gives more this time, more screen time, more clues, but still same kind of boring material. At the beginning we can see Charlotte, Stensen, Thurman, Helen and Daniel having a meal and talking about this huge project. Stensen told to Helen and Daniel he is going to build a silo and it will work to preserve seeds, art, music, history, you know everything really valuable for human kind as perception of a billionaire, just in case of a worldwide catastrophes, also told them 10 more excavator will be build to continue with other 10 Silos but that at the end he will build 50 silos in total, here enter Daniel saying that is better build all the 50 excavator, it will be more cheaper that trying to take out the one that is under the silo after it is built, well that was his opinion Stensen will take it into consideration and apparently in the end that was what ended up happening, well the thing is that Helen is listening and she is a reporter so she is not stupid she knew there was more behind that philanthropic story so she asked that if were only be seed on those silos and Stensen ended confessing that no, that it will be also built to preserve people, so that was the total true, apparently Stensen really believe that the end of the earth as they know it is near. The point of Stensen is to build and be prepare for any possible disaster that hit the planet, it could be, climate change, AI, nanotechnology, etc, he has a hidden argument, has the money and the courage to believe and create the silos but why he is the only controlling all this, why so much secret, so much money only for a possibility, Helen asked why he doesn't use all that money for medicine, feed people but Stensen has his own though is better being prepare for the worst and if he can afford it nothing can't stopped him. Helen and Daniel received an invitation to join the project but Helen denied and Daniel too, who knows if at some point they will really regret not accepting. If was me, I do accept, will be a great opportunity to learn, to provide my opinion and to be safe and bring my family to that safety as well, if were you, you accept it or not?. After all its just entertaining, so I guess it would depend on the conditions and how things start to unfold.

Gray Goo Pushes Silo 18 Closer to War

Gray Goo was a great episode wit so many things happening all at once, Patrick growing in a way that look more human, the safeguard investigation finally help the group to have something real to work with, Juliette ended worse, thanks that she saves Shirley she was arrested and end up in the same cell as Sims and Sims is also arrested because apparently he is not with his wife, he decided to take Juliette side. Looks that in certain point everything is getting worse but I think that this episode give answer for some question and also give us more information why a rich man believe in this project and that the end to humanity is closer, is not his ego neither the money is the fact that he do believe or knows for a fact that something bad is happening and start working in something that could give human kind a second chance, that it sound crazy for some people probably but that though save a lot of people, only that exist a contradiction that is the way how people is control in the silos, we could witness it when Bernard told his story, how he follow the algorithm without questioning, he even killed Judge Meadows, his real love and all for being a blind follower but now he sees everything very clear, as Juliette trying to do what he couldnt at the time but its because thats her nature, she is a rebel. Every one right know has take their sides including Camille that is the person that still believe entirely the algorithm it doesn't matter that it can affect her family in special her son but at the end I think thats going to change, it has to so she can be turn into the one leader who finally joins the light. I just loving this season and when the end comes I doubt it will be any disapointing, yes there will be a big void with tons of questions specially to whats next but I think this season is the one where the Silo earns it independance and goes to war with Silo 1, potentially joining other Silo now that they have discover the radio.
