Maggie and Luis Search for Medical Supplies

Episode 4 of Dead City, Found/Lost has a lot to unpac specially on how close or distant are getting Maggie and Luis on top of how much the population of the island have been increasing because when you think about it we just speculating that this are the only groups that have found their way, the previous episode bring new people in conflict and the doubt if was a good decision let them stayed but episode four show nothing about that. It lets know that more people is arriving to the island thank you to the torch but with more less supplies, in special for the hospital, they need morphine, saline, penicillin and other medical supplies, also that the only doctor is Luis and is working with his bare hands, if any emergency surge they are screwed. Luis at the hospital is treating a patient who offer him a very expensive whisky, Luis asked where did he found that and the man told that exist a woman named the Trader who can found and give anything you want, very convinient I would say at the same time just classic TWD writing. Luis thought it was the solution to the shortage of supplies, so he told Maggie and she decided to go with him. It was really strange to see a cabin alone in the woods, no guard and the woman inside living her happy life in this apocalypsis, I thought that was contradicted, while other places are trying to survive whether due to food shortages or for the walkers, the Trader is just there sitting and waiting for someone to ask for her help, well is not that I'm upset only was something that didn't like too much. Maggie told her about everything she needs for the hospital and she offers the offers the blueprints to convert walkers into energy, it was more than a fair deal due to the neccesity of the hospital. The Trader leave both in the cavin without their guns and she went to confirm that those blueprints were in fact valuables, the episode begins with a necessity that Maggie and her people have and only one woman can help them, that's cruel.

Maggie and Luis Get Closer

Maggie and Luis relationship wasn't strange at all for me. They are alone and decided to open each other and talk about their feelings, she feels that is time to move one, she also feels that in some point her ring is something that keep her tied to her past, it doesn't mean that she will just erase Glenn from her life but at least she is willing to open herself to new events in her life, her son is a teenager, he was the center of her universe for so long but know she knows that he is growing and is taking his own path. Maggie shows that she has deeply feelings for the people that she loved but also think that is time to live her life. On the other hand Luis also talked about who he lost, his wife Marisol, she went to look for her father but never returned, he felt that she left him behind and never gave him the opportunity to be a better man. The truth is that Luis is just a cool guy and is the doctor in his community, yeah his position is important because is the only one right now that is helping people but he needs to play a more prominent role for me, because the show is creating this evironmnet around them but he needs to do more, come on, she had a badass husband, they just can place them together for the magic of the script. The kiss was fine for me, it shows that Maggie can take her own decisions without being forced, it doesn't look forced at all and also ended there, she didn't continue with it and it was great because she still feels confused, devoted to her past and thinking about the future but with her mind working in a good way. Really if they want to create a serious relationship between Maggie and Luis, the show must give Luis a something incredible to stand out for. Well at the end the Trader returned with everything they need and more for the hospital and they returned home.

Hershel and Negan Start to Click

Great things happen on this episode, is like the series is really trying to take a turn for better before everything goes to shit because honestly thats the joke of the franchise, part of it is the good relationship that is creating Hershel and Negan, truth is that Negan is right about something that he always loose those who he love so I hope he doesnt get that attach to Hershel. They seems that can work together and have a little fun in the process, and Hershel started to feel more useful since the previous episode, he is no longer the person that Maggie worries about all the time, he is contributing in the community and it shows when he works side by side with Negan, Luis, Dillard and Fabian taking walkiers to a cage. In that moment he also fell that is giving more to his community, also feels that is so easy to have a converstion with Negan, probably Luis seems to him more as a paternal figure with Negan he is more free to express what he thought, jokes around with him and stop being so angry. I mention this on my previous post too but Hershel is one of the characters that has grow the most in the serie and I'm glad that his character is working is not only an extra in the screen because even though Season 1 and 2 was almost all because of him he always felt alone in the background. The other character that has some important growth on this third season is Negan, because the truth is that he is proving himself with every contribution he is givin and that Renata notices. Renata just offered Negan an apartment because she wants to trust him but with one condition, he can't kill no more, Negan refuse because for him is like she wants to crontol him even though if she mean it, there is no trust between them so she wanted to create something tangible but still it wouldnt work, trust is not build on things but on actions.

Maggie Loses Her Ring

In good old TWD fashion when you think that nothing else can happen, something happen. Maggie, Renata, Hershel, Luis, Dillard and Negan notice that the floor is cracking, now an earthquake hit the island. Renata, Hershel and Dillard run to save everything they can for the building supplies and Negan, Maggie and Luis are fighting againts the walker that were released from the cage due to the earthquake, in that moment Maggie lost her ring and she get nuts looking for it, she really didn't care that the walker are so close to her, she is only thinking about her ring. That was really a sad moment to watch because is more than clear that is not the ring that kept her moving, is her own feelings, despite what happen with Luis, the talk, the kiss, she still into Glenn and is something that appartently she will carry always and its understadable, Glenn was her everything and she had to watching die, she lost him in the more horrible way and is so funny and distrubing that the one who save her is the person who end with Glenn's life, you bet this kind of situation had happen in real life. Maggie is saved gets pulled from the walkers but now she has to go on without her ring and what hapen with Luis is going to stayed in the past because is obvious that she is not ready to continue. While that event is happening the the street is still collapsing the supplies are in risk, they are trying to save as much food as possible for the community but suddenly the streep split apart. This scene gave that action needed to this episode, small but meaningfull , yeah all the scene about human relationship are good, sometimes slows down the series but its still important to buil drama and characters, although I can understand some might think its just draggy.

The Earthquake Changes Everything

At first I thought that it will be a filler episode, only showing flashbacks and new relationships forming but it is not, yes is a more slow episode and the action is until the end but is good because it end with a sorprise and not a good one. Maggie and Luis, well for me at the moment they work, talking about their past, how Maggie felt about move on and being open for a new chapter, while Luis is whishing that everything was different with his wife but past is in the past, but we saw that when Maggie lost her ring her past is so present, as I said before Luis is a good guy but he need more leadership, his character needs to be build until the point that is something happen between them is not only because Maggie wants to start over, is because he gained that opportunity. Negan and Hershel are good, they seems good friends now so yeah another huge irony, Hershel character has grow taking more responsibilities and not only being always under the Maggie's eyes, worried always for him, he proved that he can do more and is doing it while Negan is also giving more to the community proving that he is important in the island and Renata wants to show him that she wants to trust in him but those two are so alike that the trust never surge. Now things changed for worst honestly, with the earthquake creating all the damage, they don't know how much supplies is lost and they will have to ration, something I bet others that just got the place wont like that much and its not like their vertical farms or the crops at Central Park have kick in by any chance, there is more people to feed, they could find more supplies for the hospital but in the next episode we are really going to see the real damages when their society start to break down mostly because they will be fighting over supplies, food. This was an ok ish episode, nothing too exiting, mostly character development but I really would like some danger from the outside but I think this series is getting ready to roll over, Im not sure if they going to continue with a fourth season but considering its the weakest of the three spin off running right now, and on top Daryl Dixon is on its last season so I guess Dead City is too.
