SINOPSIS/Synopsis.
En un mundo mitológico sumergido en una primavera eterna, el Señor de las Tinieblas busca sumir al planeta en la noche perpetua destruyendo a los últimos unicornios, criaturas sagradas que custodian la luz del sol. Tras la imprudencia de la princesa Lili, el Señor de las Tinieblas logra capturar a uno de los unicornios y congelar el mundo. Jack, un joven ermitaño y morador del bosque que conoce los secretos de la naturaleza, deberá unirse a un grupo de duendes, elfos y criaturas mitológicas para adentrarse en el guarida del mal, rescatar a la princesa y devolverle la luz y el equilibrio al mundo.
In a mythological world bathed in eternal spring, the Lord of Darkness seeks to plunge the planet into perpetual night by destroying the last unicorns, sacred creatures that guard the sunlight. After Princess Lili’s reckless act, the Lord of Darkness manages to capture one of the unicorns and freeze the world. Jack, a young hermit and forest dweller who knows the secrets of nature, must join a group of goblins, elves, and mythological creatures to venture into the lair of evil, rescue the princess, and restore light and balance to the world.

Legend es una propuesta pura de fantasía fantástica que destaca por su abrumadora dirección de arte y su estética atmosférica. Ridley Scott construye una fábula poética y visualmente sobrecogedora que bebe directamente del folclore europeo medieval, apoyándose en impresionantes escenarios naturales e interiores meticulosamente decorados, además de un maquillaje prostético deslumbrante para la época.
“Legend” is a pure fantasy film that stands out for its stunning art direction and atmospheric aesthetic. Ridley Scott crafts a poetic and visually breathtaking fable that draws directly from medieval European folklore, relying on breathtaking natural settings and meticulously decorated interiors, as well as prosthetic makeup that was dazzling for its time.
OPINIÒN PERSONAL/Personal Opinion.
Es una película magnética que entra directamente por los ojos y los sentidos. La caracterización de Tim Curry como el Señor de las Tinieblas (Darkness) es sencillamente descomunal e inolvidable; su maquillaje, voz y presencia escénica roban cada plano en el que aparece. Asimismo, la cinematografía llena de partículas en suspensión, luces filtradas y bosques de ensueño crea una atmósfera única que transporta al espectador a un cuento ilustrado en movimiento.
It’s a mesmerizing film that immediately captivates the eyes and the senses. Tim Curry’s portrayal of the Lord of Darkness is simply monumental and unforgettable; his makeup, voice, and stage presence steal every shot in which he appears. Likewise, the cinematography—filled with floating particles, filtered light, and dreamlike forests—creates a unique atmosphere that transports the viewer into a moving picture book.
CRITICA/Review.
El aspecto donde Legend flaquea es en la profundidad de su narrativa. El argumento es deliberadamente sencillo e infantil, cayendo en arquetipos muy marcados de bondad absoluta versus maldad pura, lo que deja poco espacio para el desarrollo de los personajes principales. Además, las diferencias entre los distintos montajes existentes (especialmente los cambios drásticos de banda sonora entre la versión europea de Jerry Goldsmith y la norteamericana de Tangerine Dream) hacen que la experiencia pueda sentirse variada según la versión que se disfrute.
Where Legend falls short is in the depth of its narrative. The plot is deliberately simple and childlike, relying on stark archetypes of absolute good versus pure evil, which leaves little room for the development of the main characters. Furthermore, the differences between the various existing cuts (especially the drastic changes in the soundtrack between the European version by Jerry Goldsmith and the North American version by Tangerine Dream) mean that the viewing experience can vary depending on which version you watch.
CONCLUSIÒN/Conclusiòn.
Legend es una joya estética y un referente estético inolvidable dentro del cine de fantasía de los años 80. Aunque su guion es simple, su poder visual, la majestuosidad de su villano y el encanto novato de Tom Cruise y Mia Sara la convierten en una obra de culto indispensable para los amantes del género.
