Hello to all members of this community and sewing enthusiasts! Welcome to another chapter of: "Seamstresses also deserve to sew beautiful things". I recently showed you the process of making a sewing bag to store my threads and other sewing materials. I urgently needed this because my things were crammed into a bag with a huge hole where everything kept falling out, haha. Following that same idea, I needed a case for my fabric scissors after volunteering with a sewing group and realizing I needed something to wrap them in so I wouldn't have to put them in my bag and risk damaging something, or to be able to move them around my workspace comfortably.

I'm one of those people who loves saving different sewing tutorials for the same project, so I can choose my favorite or mix and match the steps. When it came to the scissor case, I had quite a few options, so I opted for something simple. For this, I used scraps of bed sheet fabric and waterproof fabric that I had on hand. I really liked them because my favorite color is green, so I was happy to find these scraps for this specific project. When making the pattern, I took into account the size of my fabric scissors and drew a flap so it would close through them.

Once the pattern was made, I cut the following pieces: printed fabric, waterproof lining, and batting or stuffing. I cut an extra piece from the printed fabric to make a kind of pocket. In addition, I also used lace, cord, and Velcro or hook-and-loop fasteners.

When I got to the sewing machine, I started by wadding the fabric pieces and hemming the top edge of the pocket piece. Then, I added a strip of lace to the edge of the pocket piece before sewing the pocket onto the front piece of the case.

After doing this, I sewed the lining pieces to the front (pocket) and back (flap) pieces, leaving an opening for turning them right side out. Preferably in the upper areas.

I made a seam at the top of the front piece, in order to close the opening where I turned the piece. The next thing was to join both pieces: the front one (the one with the pocket) and the back one (the one with the flap), with a seam along the entire edge, in this way, the opening where the flap piece was turned was also closed. If we want our case to be able to hang, we take advantage of placing the cord on both sides.

I sewed a small piece of lace onto the lapel as decoration, and then all that was left was to attach the Velcro or hook-and-loop fastener to close it. You could also use a button and buttonhole, depending on your preference.

Finally, to hide the seams I made to attach the Velcro, I decided to glue on a flower-shaped embroidery I found in my bag of recycled appliqués. Since it's a piece of thick thread, I glued it on with liquid silicone.

And so, the scissor case was finished ✨ I really liked it because apart from fitting my fabric scissors and my "all-purpose scissors," there's still room in the pocket for a seam ripper or even a lighter haha. Not to mention how great the padded protection is, and especially the waterproof part, since I can carry the scissors in my bag without worrying about them getting wet from my water bottle or some unexpected accident.

As I mentioned at the beginning, my motivation for making the case was for traveling to external workshops, although it will definitely be the case where I permanently store my scissors. Remember: Proper use and care of our work tools will prolong their lifespan. I've had these fabric scissors for about 10 years and they cut beautifully, so I'll continue to take care of them for as long as they last, haha. ¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la costura! Bienvenidos a otro capítulo de: "Las costureras también merecemos cosernos cosas bonitas". Hace poco les enseñé el proceso de elaboración de un costurero o estuche que hice para guardar mis hilos y demás materiales de costura, algo que necesitaba con urgencia, pues tenía mis cosas metidas en un bolso con un enorme agujero por dónde se salía todo jaja Siguiendo esa misma línea, necesitaba un estuche para mi tijera de tela, luego de realizar voluntariado de costura y notar que me hacía falta tener con qué envolverla para no meter la tijera en el bolso y correr el riesgo de dañar algo o poder trasladarla en el espacio de trabajo, con comodidad.

Soy de las personas que adora guardar tutoriales de costura distintos de la misma cosa, para escoger mi favorito o mezclar los pasos de los tutoriales. En el caso del estuche para la tijera, tenía bastantes opciones para fabricarlo, así que opté por hacer algo sencillo. Para ello, utilicé los retazos de tela de sábana y de tela impermeable que tenía. Me gustaron mucho porque mi color favorito es el verde, así que me alegré de conseguir estos retazos para este proyecto en específico. A la hora de realizar el patrón, tomé en cuenta el tamaño de mi tijera para cortar tela, así como dibujé una solapa para que cerrase a través de la misma.

Una vez elaborado el patrón, corté las piezas siguientes: En tela estampada, forro impermeable y guata o relleno. En cuanto a la tela estampada, corté una pieza sobrante para elaborar una especie de bolsillo. Adicional a ello, también utilicé encaje, cordón y velcro o cierre mágico.

A la hora de ir a la máquina de coser, empecé enguatando las piezas de tela, así como haciéndole un dobladillo en la parte superior de la pieza correspondiente al bolsillo. Luego, le coloqué una tira de encaje al borde de la pieza del bolsillo, para después coser el bolsillo en la pieza delantera del estuche.

Tras hecho esto, cosí las piezas de forro a las piezas delantera (la del bolsillo) y trasera (la de la solapa), dejando una abertura para voltearlas. De preferencia, en las zonas superiores.

Realicé una costura en la parte superior de la pieza delantera, con la finalidad de cerrar la abertura por dónde volteé la pieza. Lo siguiente, fue unir ambas piezas: la delantera (la que tiene el bolsillo) y la trasera (la que tiene la solapa), con una costura por todo el borde, de esta forma, se cierra también la abertura por dónde se volteó la pieza de la solapa. Si deseamos que nuestro estuche pueda guindarse, aprovechamos de colocar el cordón en ambos laterales.

Le cosí un pedacito de encaje en la zona de la solapa como decoración y tras ello, ya lo que faltaba, era colocarle el velcro o cierre mágico para que cerrase la solapa. También se puede colocar un botón y ojal respectivamente, eso ya es a preferencia.

Para finalizar, para ocultar las costuras que realicé para fijar el velcro, pensé en pegarle un bordado con forma de flor que encontré en mi bolsa de apliques reciclados. Como se trata de una pieza de hilo grueso, lo pegué con silicón líquido.

De esta forma, el estuche para tijeras estuvo terminado ✨ Me gustó mucho porque aparte de que cabe mi tijera de tela y también la "tijera todo uso", en el bolsillo sigue quedando espacio para colocar el descosedor o hasta un yesquero jaja Sin mencionar lo genial que es la protección acolchada y sobre todo, la impermeable, ya que puedo llevar la tijera en el bolso sin preocuparme de que se moje con mi termo de agua o algún accidente inesperado.

Como mencioné en un principio, mi motivación de realizar el estuche, fue el traslado a talleres externos, aunque será definitivamente el estuche en dónde guarde la tijera definitivamente. Recuerden: El correcto uso y cuidado de nuestras herramientas de trabajo prolongarán su vida útil. Tengo alrededor de 10 años con esa tijera de tela y corta espectacular, así que seguiré cuidándola los años que le queden jaja.
