Monochrome Monday: some edits from recent walks

Good Morning. I hope your weekend went well, and wishing you a good week ahead.

Today, as I tend to do on Mondays, I am sharing a few Mono Edits to start the week, all taken on recent walks in or around New Bedford MA

Starting with this photo of the Bourne Warehouse and Auction room in the historic district downtown

Built in 1887, it once hosted a busy auction business that sold everything from antique furniture to entire ships. it was acquired and saved by the Waterfront Historic Area League (WHALE) in 1975, which then restored.

WHALE has restored a few places inthe area, and I am glad for what they have done.

A fleet of commercial fishing vessels sits tightly moored in a calm harbor under an overcast sky. The desaturated, black-and-white tones highlight the intricate network of rigging, masts, and outriggers, all perfectly mirrored in the glassy, still water.

and next the old fort

Construction began in 1857 under the third system of U.S. fortifications as the Fort at Clark's Point. CConstruction was interrupted by the American Civil War. Mayor Isaac C. Taber built a temporary earthworks fort (Fort Taber) nearby for immediate defense. which is no longer there

The original plan called for four tiers to hold 72 cannons.

the design was reduced to three tiers for a faster finish, but construction halted permanently in 1871, leaving the third tier incomplete.

It was renamed in 1898 to honor Lieutenant Colonel William Logan Rodman, the highest-ranking New Bedford officer killed in action during the Civil War at Port Hudson, Louisiana.

Later, it served as a coastal defense site through World War I and World War II, and later for Army Reserve training until the 1970s, when it was sold to the city.

And sadly, now it is locked up and decaying.

And to finish of a view in the Whalking City Historic District, which I visited a couple of mornings recently during sunrise, I have a few I will edit in color to show off the sunrise colors, but i liked this one in a sepia style edit.

    The Bourne Warehouse detail got me, an 1887 auction house that once sold entire ships is exactly the kind of history a black and white edit deserves.

    The level of preservation of these buildings, considering the passage of time, is interesting. As for the photos—excellent, as always!
