The Transylvanian Village Museum in Orastie, Romania

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to visit an authentic Romanian museum, an open-air museum.
The Transylvanian Village Museum is located on the outskirts of Orastie. It is quite difficult to get here from the city, meaning that the only option is by car/taxi, as there is no public transportation on this route.
The museum is relatively new (if I may say so figuratively), having opened sometime in 2008. A group of history enthusiasts and preservationists discovered this location on the outskirts of Orastie, where they managed to bring some very old houses and restore them to their former beauty.
These houses are from various rural areas in Romania. If it weren't for these history lovers, these houses would most likely have ended up being burned down.
Being a relatively new museum, there are only a few traditional houses here, but also a very old church.
Most houses are built from river stone. In some areas of Romania, along the banks of certain rivers, this type of stone (slabs) can be found, which can be easily used to build a house. Here in this museum, I even saw a house roof made entirely from stone slabs.
We visited each house individually, but unfortunately, the interiors are not yet furnished. It takes a long time for the people in charge of restoring them to find objects specific to that period somewhere in the Romanian villages, as many of the old objects have either been sold to collectors or destroyed.
We visited this museum on Sunday, during the weekend, and there was an autumn festival combined with an authentic Romanian festival taking place here.
I really like these types of authentic Romanian festivals because they are the only places where we still have the opportunity to see something traditional, from customs to food.
Here we were able to visit and, of course, take pictures with the autumn decorations. Just before leaving, I discovered that inside one of the houses there was a restaurant and a museum, so I couldn't leave before visiting both.
I must admit that I had a wonderful Sunday, surrounded by so many autumn decorations and so much authentic history displayed in those authentic wooden and stone houses.
