Hello, hello, lovely Hive community!
It’s been a festive time on the island recently due to the celebrations for the Virgen del Valle, so the streets are filled with music and people parading their little statues of the Virgin, all dressed up and decorated. As for me, we had to go out because we needed to do some shopping – I was planning to make a meal and a cake.

We usually go to the nearest supermarket, but this time we decided to go a bit further afield to make a few stops along the way, and I really liked the supermarket we were heading to. Specifically, we went to the river at Playa El Ángel; to be honest, I really like this one because it’s very big and there’s a Farmatodo right next door, ha ha ha.
I mean, sometimes I find that supermarkets are really crowded and it’s a bit tricky to get about with a trolley, so the spaciousness of this one makes it much more comfortable, plus the times I’ve been there it’s not usually very busy. I also like how nice and tidy everything is.

But one thing that isn’t great is the cheese section, hahaha. They kept me, a French bloke, someone who, judging by his accent, I reckon is from the Middle East or the Near East, and two other ladies (who kept asking how many days the cheese would stay fresh 😂) waiting to be served for about half an hour, even though there were about ten staff serving at the counter, so I got fed up, left my mum there and went to the café to grab a bite to eat.
Something else that made me laugh was that when I went to order something to eat, the French bloke seemed to have got fed up too and went to ask for some bread, asking if the bread he wanted to eat was French. The staff seemed to be processing the situation, and so did I; in the end they told him no, hahaha, and he ended up buying a bag of canilla bread and went off to eat. It’s worth noting that ‘pan de canilla’ is the local version of the French baguette, so I reckon that’s what he meant.

After I’d ordered something, my mum arrived; we ate the sweet treat I’d ordered and finished loading everything we were going to take onto the trolley. Just as we were about to leave, I spotted a packet of churros in the frozen food section that just needed frying, and as I really love churros, I grabbed it, we paid and headed back to the cottage.

As soon as I got home, I made the churros; they were alright – not perfect in terms of flavour, but I’m absolutely rubbish at making churros, so they weren’t too bad, although I’ll have a look to see if they sell other brands.
