Hace unos días me encontré en YouTube con una joya de la televisión británica llamada Los misterios del Inspector Alleyn. Una serie corta, de apenas nueve episodios, con una narrativa que te deja al borde del asiento y con un reparto con el que te llegas a encariñar. La serie está basada en 9 de las 32 novelas protagonizadas por el inspector Roderick Alleyn, el personaje más icónico de la escritora neozelandesa Ngaio Marsh.
La serie sigue las investigaciones del inspector jefe Alleyn y su colega, el detective sargento Brad Fox, ambos miembros de Scotland Yard. Un aspecto interesante de Alleyn son sus vínculos con la alta burguesía, dado que su hermano George es baronet. Esto le otorga una gran ventaja al momento de realizar una investigación en donde se le involucra a alguien de ese círculo social, sobre todo por la forma en que maneja las cosas: con mucho tacto pero con firmeza. Otro aspecto que me encantó es el contraste entre ambos detectives: mientras que Alleyn usa el tacto para tratar a la aristocracia, Fox utiliza un acercamiento más directo con la servidumbre y con la gente del común.
A modo personal, el reparto liderado por Patrick Malahide, William Simons y Belinda Lang ha hecho un excelente trabajo al entregarnos a personajes con los que el espectador se queda maravillado. Desde el primer minuto, la narrativa no te suelta: te envuelve, te atrapa y te mantiene al pendiente de qué es lo que va a pasar con los protagonistas. De hecho, apenas terminé la serie me puse a buscar los libros, por lo que tengo harto material para leer en este año y el siguiente.
La serie está completamente en inglés en YouTube, lo que lo hace ideal para pasarla bien un domingo por la tarde.

Some days ago I found in YouTube a jewel from the British television named The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries. A short series of just nine episodes, with a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a cast you can't help but grow fond of. The series is based on 9 of the 32 novels featuring Inspector Roderick Alleyn, the most iconic character created by New Zealand author Ngaio Marsh.
The series follows the investigations by Inspector Alleyn and his colleague, Sargeant Inspector Brad Fox, both members of Scotland Yard. An interesting aspect of Alleyn is his links with the gentry, since his brother George is a baronet. This gives him a great advantage when conducting an investigation involving someone from that social circle, especially because of the way he handles things: with great tact but firmness. Another aspect that I loved is the contrast between the two detectives: while Alleyn uses tact when dealing with the aristocracy, Fox takes a more direct approach with the servants and ordinary people.
Personally, the cast lead by Patrick Malahide, William Simons and Belinda Lang did an excellent job by delivering us characters that leave the viewer in awe. From the very first minute, the story grabs you and doesn't let go: it envelops you, draws you in, and keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen to the main characters. In fact, as soon as I finished the series, I started looking for the books, so I have plenty to read this year and next.
The series is in YouTube, in English, which makes it great to have fun in a Sunday afternoon.
