I am very happy to join the community and see that there is a new theme for this month that has just begun; I certainly intend to participate! However, today I want to talk about something a bit different. I’d like to share a channel I recently discovered—though I was already familiar with its host, as she was part of the team behind another channel of the same style (which I’ve reviewed here before and some of you may know) called "Somos del Rancho." That channel focuses on life in the countryside: cooking, agriculture, daily routines, and even travel. Doña Cristina is the mother of the two young women who host "Somos del Rancho," but I recently discovered that she has decided to launch her own YouTube channel—and why not? After all, her daughters learned everything they know thanks to her and her teachings. I think it’s wonderful that she has taken this step to share her culinary secrets and her daily life with us, set against the peaceful, relaxed backdrop of the countryside.
Me alegra mucho entrar a la comunidad y ver que hay una nueva propuesta para este mes que recién comienza, y desde luego que pienso participar en ella, sin embargo hoy les vengo a hablar de algo diferente, en esta ocasión quiero hablarles de un canal que descubrí recientemente a pesar de que yo ya conocía a la conductora de este canal, pues ella formaba parte del equipo de otro canal del mismo estilo que yo ya he reseñado anteriormente aquí, y que algunos de ustedes conocen, se llama "Somos del Rancho" Ese en cuestión es un canal sobre la vida en el campo: cocina, agricultura, vida cotidiana e incluso viajes. Doña Cristina es la madre de las dos jovencitas que conducen el canal "Somos del Rancho" pero recientemente descubrí que ella decidió también abrir su propio canal de youtube, ¿y por qué no? si después de todo sus hijas saben todo lo que saben gracias a ella y a sus enseñanzas, así que me parece muy bien que ella haya dado ese paso para que comparta cn nosotros sus secretos culinarios y su vida cotidiana estando en la tranuilidad y relax que ofrece el campo.
One of the videos I found most satisfying has nothing to do with her recipes; rather, it centers on a personal achievement for her and her family. In it, she proudly shows off their completed home—a small house that required time, resources, and a great deal of effort to build. Throughout the "Somos del rancho" channel, we have witnessed how hard they have worked to acquire everything they have, so it feels truly well-deserved that they have managed to secure such a lovely home, complete with all the comforts one could hope for in a rural setting. What I find most charming, however, is that even though they now have a kitchen equipped with a stove, Doña Cristina—at least for the sake of her YouTube videos—continues to use the wood-fired hearth in the yard. This is not only one of the most appealing aspects of the lifestyle showcased on the channel, but it also results in food with a uniquely delicious flavor—something I can personally attest to, as it reminds me of my own grandmother.
Uno de los videos que me pareció más satisfactorios no tiene nada que ver con sus recetas, sino más bien con un logro personal y de su familia, en ese video ella está mostrando con mucho orgullo su casa ya terminada, una casita que les llevó tiempo, recursos y esfuerzo. A lo largo del canal "Somos del rancho" hemo sido testigos de lo duro que ellos han trabajado por obtener cada cosa, así que me parece muy justo que hayan logrado obtener una casita muy bonita y con todas las comodidades que una casa puede ofrecer estando en el campo, pero lo que me parece más bnito es que a pesar de que ahora cuentan con una cocina con estufa, aún así, al menos para hacer los videos de youtube, Doña Cristina sigue usando el fogón de leña del patio, no solo porque es uno de los mayores atractivs de su estilo de vida mostrado en el canal, sino porque la comida hecha en leña tiene un sabor particularmente delicioso, yo lo certifico porque me recuerda a mi abuela.
One video that caught my attention shows how to prepare a lentil dish—a recipe my wife used to make a long time ago. She doesn’t make it anymore, but Doña Cristina prepares it with a few modifications, and—what’s more—she cooks it over a wood fire. Another thing that stands out to me is that her cooking methods and techniques are the same ones used by the mothers and grandmothers of my generation: they didn’t use cutting boards; instead, they did everything by hand, slicing ingredients directly with a knife without ever cutting their fingers. It’s truly an art form, and this lady has clearly mastered it. And, of course, what gives videos like this that special touch is the natural ambient sound, which evokes the very essence of the countryside—the singing of birds, the occasional bark of a dog, and even the lowing of a cow.
Un video que me llamó la atención es donde nos enseña a preparar una receta de lentejas, me gustó porque esta receta solía prepararla mi esposa hace tiempo, últimamente ya no la prepara, pero doña Cristina la hace cn algunas modificaciones y además, cocinadas a leña. Y otra cosa que me llama la atención es que su método o tecnicas de cocina son las mismas que usaban las madres y abuelas de mi época (sin usar tablas de cortar) todo lo hacían a mano, cortaban con el cuchillo directamente y nunca se lastimaban los dedos, la verdad es que es todo un arte, y esta señora lo dmina muy bien. Y desde luego, lo que le da ese toque especial a los videos de este tipo es el sonido ambiente natural que nos recuerda la esencia misma del campo, (el canto de las aves, el ladrido de algún perro y hasta el mugido de una vaca)
