The story brings together two vastly different characters: Hiiragi Yatsuse, a boy who suppresses his emotions and cannot say no—constantly striving to please everyone—and Tsumugi, a unique girl who is not entirely human; she is a half-demon who has come to the human world in search of her mother. Hiiragi accompanies her on a fantastical journey amidst gods, a voyage that acts as a catalyst to transform them both according to their own needs.
La historia une a dos personajes completamente distintos; Hiiragi Yatsuse un chico que reprime sus emociones y nosabe decir que no, así que constantemente siempre está intentando complacer a todo el mundo, entonces conoce a Tsumugi, una chica muy particular pues no es completamente humana, es una niña mitad demnio que llegó al mundo de los humanos en busca de su madre. Hiraigi acompaña a esta chica en una travesía fantástica en medio de dioses, y esta travesía actúa como catalizador para transformarlos a ambos según sus propias necesidades.
I don't usually watch movies like this, but it was a Sunday and I had nothing else to do, so I started browsing Netflix; the trailer—or the teaser shown as a preview—caught my eye. I found it to be a beautiful film that, in a way, serves as an introduction to Japanese culture. I say this because I used to think *Oni* were demons—much like the concept we Christians have—but the reality is different; they have an ethereal and religious connotation, yet one not necessarily linked to evil. However, the first thing that really struck me about the film was its exploration of emotional repression and its impact on the human psyche—something quite common in Japanese culture, incidentally.
Normalmente yo no veo películas de este tipo pero era día domingo y no tenía nada que ver, así que me puse a investigar en netflix y me llamó la atención el trailer o teaser que muestran a modo de antesala. Me pareció una película muy bonita que incluso de cierta manera sive como instrucción, por llamarlo de alguna manera, de la cultura japonesa, lo digo porque yo pensaba que los Onis eran demonios tal como el concepto que tenemos los cristianos y la verdad es que no es así, tienen una connotación eterea y religiosa pero no precisamente ligada al mal, pero lo primero que llamó mi atención del film es que nos habla sobre la represión emocional y sus consecuencias en el ser humano, algo bastante frecuente en la cultura japonesa, por cierto.
The journey undertaken by both protagonists represents a transition toward maturity and self-discovery—a process that is difficult and somewhat arduous, yet fascinating. The film is filled with both humorous and deeply moving scenes, so it never feels tedious or boring; on the contrary, it actually surprised me, as animated films of this kind hadn't really appealed to me before—with the exception of Studio Ghibli's works.
El viaje de ambos protagonistas representa una transición hacia la madurez y el autodescubrimiento, un proceso dificil y algo tortuoso pero fascinante a la vez. La plícula está llena de escenas graciosas pero también algunas muy emotivas, así que no resulta para nada tediosa o aburrida, al contrario, de hecho me sorprendió porque hasta ahora las películas animadas de este tipo no me llamaban la atención, tan solo las del estdio Ghibli.
It is rich in symbolism; there are graphic representations—such as the strange creatures known as "minionis"—that are tied to the repression of emotions. There is also the transformation into an *Oni*, which represents the blurring of one's own identity to the point where one no longer recognizes one's own feelings or desires, all in the name of pleasing others.
Tiene mucho simbolismos, hay representaciones gráficas como por ejemplo unas criaturas raras llamadas "minionis" que son innerentes a la represión de emociones, pero también tenemos la transformación en Oni que también re´resenta ese aspecto en el cuál tu propia identidad se ve desdibujada hasta el punto de ya no recocer lo que sientes o deseas, todo en función de complacer a otros.
