Bolt (2008): The Most Famous Dog in the World
Hello community, today I bring you this animated movie about a very peculiar little dog. I hope you like it, and if you haven't seen it yet, watch it during the intermission, hehe.
Play video...
🎬 A little context
It all starts with Bolt, a movie puppy who was part of a very interesting series. But for him, everything he experienced within the series was real, so, according to the character, this dog had laser beam eyes, a thunderous bark, could run very fast, among other things.
Within the series, he had his adventure companion, a girl named Penny, who in real life was his owner. Basically, the two of them were the protagonists of this action series and their goal was to thwart the villain's plans and thus save Penny's father.
One day, while the scenes were being filmed on set, an unexpected visit from the head of the network arrived, who told the production that the ratings were dropping and that the episodes needed to be more captivating.
What was happening was that they always filmed the episode with a resolved ending for Bolt, so he wouldn't get upset and think the danger was still there. So, at the bosses' orders, they started recording half-finished episodes to generate more anticipation among the fans.
But in the first test of these types of episodes, Bolt lost control and ran away, thinking his owner was still in danger. That's when, in the end, he stepped into reality, that is, off the set, and saw that life wasn't as easy as it seemed.
Obviously, he got very scared and was very confused that his powers didn't work and that he was basically weaker than he seemed to be.
Here begins a story where Bolt must return to his human, but during the journey, he will face great challenges never before imagined for a movie dog.
Will he manage it alone or will he need help? Will he be able to understand that everything he had lived before this event was a big lie?
Well, if you want to know what happens, I invite you to watch the movie.

♥ What I liked the most
This is a very beautiful movie, especially because the protagonist is a very special little dog, and he has other friends who will help him return home.
The first scene I liked is when Bolt helps Penny save her father, demonstrating all the powers he had. He was adopted by her, and I think from the first time they met, they felt a beautiful connection.
Now, after escaping from the set, some very funny pigeons appear to help him free his head from some bars where he had gotten stuck. What I like most about this scene is that the Spanish voices of these pigeons are from several Argentine comedians of whom I am a fan: they are part of the group Les Luthiers.
Seeing those animals with those voices is unique. I think they give it a very unique and funny style, in addition to being Latin Americans representing us in these kinds of spaces.
Another interesting scene is when Bolt goes to look for food with the cat Mittens: they roam through a whole park where several families were camping. Bolt learns to make cute faces so that people would give him food, and in turn, Mittens took the opportunity to eat a lot, because she was a street cat and didn't have much to eat.
Now, the scene where Bolt and the hamster Rhino save Mittens from the dog pound is very good because Bolt, already knowing he was just a simple animal, manages to perform several maneuvers to make it seem like he did have those powers. Rhino ends up fascinated by everything he had seen, as he was a big fan of Bolt.
It's very nice that, thanks to these two animals, Bolt manages to learn how to be a normal dog. Despite having lived in a great lie, he ends up understanding that his life was as good, or much better, than his life on camera.
In the end, Penny adopts the cat and the hamster, and they decide not to participate in recordings anymore: they just live a quiet life in their home.
💭 Some reflections
This movie made me wonder if the animals used in movies and series also experience that kind of confusion about what is real and what isn't. They probably only have to perform some trick or action for which they were trained, but I still feel there might be some kind of complex on that side.
I also think that, possibly, the animals they use are discarded after the filming; I just hope they have a family and are well taken care of.
Well, I hope you liked this movie, and I would like to know in the comments what your favorite scene was.
See you in the next post.
